Dave Mustaine of MEGADETH has posted on the bands OFFICIAL SITE about the progress made on the new album so far…”
“We are on the last day or so of drum tracks, and barring the debacle at the top of the session, we have been able to maintain the typical Vic quality with the recording.
Chris Broderick has been coming down more and more and it really is starting to feel like a band again (sometimes it feels more like a session when we break after a tour and the time lapse, before we feel like we are in stride again).
James [Lomenzo, bass], of course, lives down here and has been working with me daily, and has been relentless in his work on this project and the additional stuff that we have been doing for the last few months.
I expect James AND Chris to start playing within the next day or so, as well as myself, and I am really excited about going to the NAMM, and after that, there is just the rehearsals and the flights and we are once again … on the Killing Road.
According to a post on BLABBERMOUTH, Dave Mustaine recently told Revolver magazine that MEGADETH’s upcoming CD will contain:
“…stuff that’s melodic like nobody’s business, stuff that’s heavier than hell, and stuff that’s a combination of both…The way I write, I’ll play a riff and tape it and save it. And if I don’t use it now, I’ll use it later. The very first song I ever wrote, ‘Rust In Peace… Polaris’, didn’t appear on anything until the fourth MEGADETH record. Right now, there are about 20 songs that are in the making, and there’s another good 25-to-30 hours worth of guitar riffs on tape. And I’ve also got a lot of old lyrics I’ve assembled over my career. Some of it’s relevant to this day and age; some of it is stuff that, if I released it, would probably get me in a lot of trouble. Those songs deal with a lot of the anger that I felt when I was younger and reading things like [the 1971 underground manual for making homemade explosives] ‘The Anarchist Cookbook’.”

DEVILDRIVER have commenced recording their fourth, as-yet untitled album. The band- vocalist Dez Fafara, bassist Jon Miller, guitarists Jeff Kendrick and Mike Sprietzer and drummer John Boecklin— are holed up in Edge of the Earth studios in Los Angeles, working with producer Logan Mader (Five Finger Death Punch, Gojira, Divine Heresy). The fourth album follows DevilDriver, The Fury of Our Maker’s Hand and The Last Kind Words, all of which earned the band a fiercely loyal legion of fans across the globe. It also marks the band’s re-signing with Roadrunner Records, their longtime label home.
Both DevilDriver and Roadrunner are thrilled to continue their successful working relationship. Roadrunner Senior VP of A&R Monte Conner said
“I am thrilled to welcome DevilDriver back to the Roadrunner family. Dez Fafara and Roadrunner have quite a history together and we are happy to be going back into the trenches with him yet again. I’m extremely proud of DevilDriver’s steady ascent over the course of their first three Roadrunner albums. They continue to evolve and grow with each new record and I know this next album will be the best thing DevilDriver have ever made.”
Fafara concurs, saying,
“I’m proud to say that DevilDriver has resigned with Roadrunner records worldwide. My friend and A&R rep Monte Conner and the entire staff have been like family to me since 1996 and I am looking forward to many more years of working together and putting out music.”
And we here in the UK office are pretty stoked too!

Check out the latest blog from MEGADETH stixman Shawn:
So now it is official, we have started to record our 12th record yesterday. I laid down drum tracks for the 1st 2 songs, which I am happy to say, turned out quite well. Tuesday was spent changing all my drumheads and getting the best possible drum tone Andy Sneap and myself could, as we are going back to the old school on this in terms of natural drum tone – From this record insepction, I had many conversations with Andy expressing how great so many records sounded back in the day with drum tones, etc. and that we both wanted to get certain aspects of that into what we are doing now. You will hear the results of this when this record is released. Anyways, day 2 will have myself playing song’s 3 & 4, (obviously, no song titles as I write this) and if we stay on track, I will have 8 song’s completed on drums by weeks end.
Be well, Shawn.

Meet Owen Brown. He’s from the UK heavy metal homeland of the Midlands (like my bad self- web ed), and has always had a bit of a passion for the heavier side of life. And even now, at 82, he’s still dustin’ down his MEGADETH albums and giving them a spin!

Looks like he’s into a lil Priest too. Supporting the locals! Top dollar! I think the Roadrunner fairy may have to pay him a visit seeing as how the PRIEST FEAST is rolling into town soon…
