TOP ALBUMS OF 2009- PART 1

Posted on December 3, 2009

Coming attcha next week is the tradional Roadrunner UK Staff Top 10! Oh yeah! That time again! It’s come around so soon!! But before we tell you what WE have been diggin’ (both RR and none RR), we thought we would have a look at what YOU have been liking this year, and so here we have one of the winning entries from our ‘Fiftenn Minutes of Fame’ competition.

Roadrunner UK website reader Steven Wilson (no, not that Steven Wilson) has nominated Killswitch Engage’s 2009 self titled effort as his fave Roadrunner release of the year. This is what he had to say about it:

Best album release of 2009 has to be Killswitch Engage- Killswitch Engage. I have listened to a large number of albums over the years to try and quench my thirst for great music but none have appealed to me more than Killswitch Engage’s new album.

I was astounded when I listened to the album for the first time. It really did have everything I look for in a music album- a total screamer of a first song followed by some of the best songs ever recorded in my opinion. It was a real pleasure to listen to- especially the guitars. The riffs used were out of his world brilliant! Howard Jones, Adam Dutkiewicz, Joel Stroetzel, Mike D’Antonio and Justin Foley are really amazing artists- they all have amazing skills and talent.

My favourite riffs have to be from the verse for “Starting Over“. After listening to it, it was stuck in my head for the rest of the week- it got to the point when I just had to pick up my guitar, learn it and playing it over and over again, never getting tired of hearing it and I am still the same! Howard’s vocals were also on fire. They’re just so appealing to the ear- such a beautiful and strong voice. In all the combo of the drums, guitars, bass and vocals equal one of the most powerful and amazing sounds to date without a doubt. So let us all hope this album will never be “The Forgotten”!

Thanks to Steven for sending in his review. Look out for an email requesting your choice of 2 CD’s coming at you very soon! Watch this space for more reader reviews coming soon…

SATYRICON ISSUE STATEMENT RE RECENT INTERNET RUMOURS

Posted on November 28, 2009

SATYRICON have spoken out to clarify internet gossip and speculation about their immediate future and direction. Frontman and band mastermind Satyr commented as follows yesterday:

Let’s try and bring some clarity to the rumours that have been circulating lately. Although “The Age Of Nero” is now a year old, the project is still very much alive to us as we’ve been working it more or less non-stop for almost three years. The last 12 months since release has been spent relentlessly touring and the fortunate success of the album has taken us to India, Australia, Japan, twice to America, across Europe and around Scandinavia and now we head out on the “Finale In Black” tour, which will mark the end of the colossal “The Age Of Nero” project. Once we have done that, we feel the time is right to take a break. A break where we can rest, get some perspective, work on other musical projects and non-musical projects and allow ourselves to figure out Satyricon’s next move.”

“We have some ideas on what we want to do next and one of them is to open a new musical chapter. It has never been in this bands nature to rest on our laurels and we won’t be doing that either. When the time is right, we will start working on exploring new musical territory and only the future can tell what that will turn into. Taking on challenges like that is something Satyricon never has been afraid of. On the contrary, it is what has made the band grow. We tried to perfect everything Satyricon has learnt and experienced musically for the last decade on “The Age Of Nero” and we feel that we reached the goal we set out to achieve. It is time to pave way for something new. No, we won’t return to something old. Forget it! All we know is that regardless of what we end up doing, it will still sound unmistakably like Satyricon. We won’t tour in the foreseeable future unless it is something so unique that it could be considered an historical event, but we will do one or two select festivals here and there whenever we feel like it. When we return, some of the people surrounding us today might be gone and some might still be with us. We don’t know when, we don’t know how, but we do know that Satyricon is still very much alive and this break is something we know we need to do to keep it that way. Until then, see you at “Finale In Black”!

Whilst the tour routes around Europe, the London show is indeed the ‘Finale In Black’ as it’s the very last date of the run. This will be your last time to catch this incendiary band live, before they take that break. Tickets are on sale now for the Shepherds Bush Empire show in London on the 20th December. Pick tickets up online HERE.

You can pick up the album ‘The Age Of Nero‘ online now at THIS LOCATION.
