It’s time for another one of our guys to get another Getting To Know You grilling and this week we have the pleasure of none other than KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam D! We caught up with him when the band were in the UK on tour on a particularly nippy day in Newcastle…
What were you doing when I interrupted you to do this?
I was looking at Failblog.org, and we were admiring a beaver.
Date of birth?
April 4th 1977. Getting old. This cold English weather is making my bones hurt.
Where did you go to high school?
I went to high school in Westhampton, the town I grew up in. It’s called Hampshire Regional High School.
When you were at high school, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be a television meteorologist.
What was the first instrument you ever played?
Drums, actually, then bass, then guitar, then suzaphone – it’s like a tuba. I gave up on that quickly! Then upright bass and that’s about it. Now I dabble in other things very poorly. Actually I’m shit at everything – jack of all trades, master of none!
Tell us about the first band you ever played in.
Aftershock. It was a straightedge hardcore band. The thought of me being straightedge? What an idiot! Actually, I didn’t drink a drop until I was about 23, but now I’m making up for lost time. That band was like straight-up hardcore, with touches of metalcore I guess you could say. I don’t get the whole labelling thing anyway – ‘this is metalcore and this is hardcore and this is metal…’ – it was heavy, kinda like me at the time, like 300 pounds!
What’s your favourite food?
Curry. Which is why I love visiting your jolly countryside, filled with such beautiful restaurants! I’d visit one before the show tonight but I have interviews from 12 til 7 – you guys [he means us here at RR UK- Ed.] screwed me! You know what, maybe I could do an interview IN a curry house?! That would be sweet!
Beverage of choice?
Beer. Or coffee. They fight with each other.
Album of the moment?
I did go to bed listening to In Rainbows, the Radiohead record. That’s an awesome record, I could listen to that over and over again.
Song of the moment?
Lady Gaga – Pokerface, over and over!
Movie of the moment?
I don’t really watch movies, not even on the bus. Sad, huh?! I just watch the Weather Channel and Food Network!
Biggest pet peeve on the road?
Probably buses over here in Europe, I can’t stand them. I can’t stand up in them, the bunks aren’t comfortable, and they always smell like diesel!
Random fact about you?
I love dogs. That’s random…
