The Ride Has Begun

Posted on February 12, 2008

DevilDriver shot a video this past Sunday for the song “I Could Care Less.” The shoot took place in Los Angeles and features a ton of band performance, and a crazy story line (can’t tell you just yet). P.R. Brown and Dez directed the piece. Word has it, it is insane. The first rough of the video is due in this Friday, with the final piece coming October 15th…meaning you should be seeing it a couple days thereafter. AND NOW, if you haven’t found this link around the web just yet, we invite you to check out the full debut album from DevilDriver. Where? www.devildriver.com/album. Enjoy. self titled debut in stores October 27th…on the road in the US with Superjoint Ritual starting October 16th…

Quote Of The Day

Posted on February 12, 2008

“I got my first flash of titties from a Venezuelan hooker.” -Cristian Machado Now if THAT isn’t deserving of a ‘Quote Of The Day’ tag, we have no idea what the hell is… Want more? For reference, that quote was taken from a piece on Ill Nino in this month’s US issue of Revolver Magazine (issue #21, December 2003). In other Ill Nino news, check out THIS LINK for an interview from abroad with bassist Laz Pina. And last, Ill Nino’s sophomore release – Confession – is officially one week old. What does that mean? The nerds from our US press department (as always, that is meant in the nicest possible way) have something to say. Their press release today goes exactly like this: ALMOST 28,000 PEOPLE GO TO CONFESSION New York, NY: Going to confession is an act that even the most pious Catholics try to avoid. But religious beliefs aside, nearly 28,000 hard rock fans willingly and happily went to confession last week. That’s right. Confession, ILL NINO’s sophomore effort for Roadrunner Records, sold 27,863 copies its first week on the shelves. The percussion-driven Confession, which follows up 2001’s Revolution, Revolucion -which has scanned over 140,000 records to date – enjoyed a hefty, healthy debut at #37 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and #8 on the Hard Music chart, quite a feat for the Latin-flavored New Jersey sextet. On the radio front, the first single from Confession, í¢ä‰åñHow Can I Live,í¢ä‰åŒ continues to heat up the radio charts. The song is sitting at #28 on the Mainstream Rock charts, #31 on the Active Rock charts, and #30 on the Heritage Rock charts with strong airplay on such heavy-hitters as WAAF/Boston, WYSP/Philadelphia and KUPD/Phoenix. The album has landed in the top 10 at all the Metal Radio charts, including CMJ Loud Rock, CMJ Crucial Spins, and FMQB’s Metal Detector. ILL NINO, an Ozzfest 2001 alum, just wrapped up an extremely successful U.S. tour with Spineshank, 40 Below Summer and Skrape and is currently in Europe as a co-headliner on the Road Rage tour with labelmates Spineshank and Chimaira – a tour which is selling out and bumping up to bigger venues overseas. Once the band returns to U.S. soil, it will hit the road again. And again. And again. Confession has been lauded by Revolver as an album by a band that í¢ä‰åñis plenty heavyí¢ä‰åŒ and that í¢ä‰åñlikes to get a little more adventurous than most of its metallic brethren.í¢ä‰åŒ

Fine And Fortunate

Posted on February 12, 2008

This past Sunday (Oct 4) at around 5:00am en route to Orlando, Florida from Jacksonville, doubleDrive was involved in an accident. While driving down route 75 South around Gainesville, Fl, they flipped their van and trailer (apparently it rolled over several times). Guitarist Troy bruised his ribs, but miraculously all escaped alive & without any serious injuries, just bruises & cuts. The van landed driver’s side down. Their buddies in Manmade God, who they were on tour with at the time, were already in Orlando when the accident happened, but drove back 2 hours to pick them up & drive them to Orlando to sleep…and doubleDrive actually played the gig that night. doubleDrive gives huge thanks to Manmade God for their efforts during this time. doubleDrive had plans to go back out on the road with Seether, but such plans have since been put on hold. The band is now back home to recuperate, regroup & figure everything out. Frontman Donnie tells, “here’s to inertia.” When the accident happened while traveling down the highway, their van flipped so fast that nobody ever had the chance to hit the top of the van. Inertia, indeed. doubleDrive, get well soon…and smile.

Caught On Camera

Before Ill Nino and Spineshank headed off on their European tour with Chimaira, they played a small show at the Birch Hill Night Club in New Jersey. Well, MTV had their cameras in effect and have posted some KILLER photos from the show. Click HERE for the Ill Nino photos and HERE for the Spineshank photos.

Respect Is Most Definitely Due

Posted on February 12, 2008

Out NOW, check out this awesome review of To My Surprise from Logo Magazine… ‘To My Surprise’ are perfectly named. This solo outing from Slipknot’s ‘Clown’ leads you to expect a hurricane of monstrous riffs, sub-guttural vocals and drug-fuelled abandon, no? Well, hold onto your socks because opener ‘The World’s Too Small’ sounds exactly like Beck, The Webb Brothers and Butthole Surfers playing with poisonous tree frogs. It is, in a word, perfect. It doesn’t stop there. ‘Come With Me’ summons an image of Jimi Hendrix barging into a Foo Fighters session, while, noí¢ä‰åŒ_ surely not, could ‘Sunday’ really be a lost Beatles song? Things do come back to earth somewhat with the random punk-metal lunacy of ‘Get It To Go’, but the damage is done – we’ll never look at slipknot in the same light again. Respect is most definitely due.
