Max And Metal UK

Posted on February 12, 2008

Did you know? Soulfly’s Max has been over here in the UK for the past 2 days doing some interviews to promote the forthcoming new album ‘Prophecy’. True. And while in town, one such interview was with the good folks over at Metal UK. The start of the piece is below, but do make sure to click through and check out the rest of their feature. MUK: What has the reaction to the new album been like so far? Max: The reaction’s been really good. MUK: How can you compare it to the last three albums you put out? Max: I don’t really compare much. I think every album has been a good evolution and they’ve all had something interesting on it that kept moving forward, and this one does the same. It’s one step forward from the last one, and so I’m happy about that. MUK: What are your feelings towards the new album? Max: There’s different things on it. ‘I Believe’ is going to please a lot of people. Something like the first four songs are complete, total like old-school classic-era ‘Chaos AD’, Nailbomb type stuff. I did that on purpose, I wanted to start the album with these complete, insane type of sounds that most bands have forgotten today. And then, from that point on, the album takes different shapes, from the song ‘I Believe’, which is a little more melodic. And then ‘Moses’, which has a dub instrumental type thing connected too. And then ‘Born Again Anarchist’, and ‘Porrada’, which is complete hardcore. So yeah, it’s just got a lot of different things throughout the whole record, and it keeps it really interesting. Read the whole interview HERE.

The Spicuzza Sessions

Posted on February 12, 2008

It’s the start of the Chimaira Pure Hatred tour, and we asked Chris, to write a report every single day they are on the road. And these are his first entries…. January 31st í¢ä‰åäóì Feb 1st : Flight/BBC I just realized how much I hate flying. It’s not that I’m scared of a huge wreck, it’s the hassle. We all met at about 12:30 est. at Hopkins Intl Airport in Cleveland. We departed from Cleveland and landed in Newark a few hours later. The two-hour layover went by fast because I discovered the airport had high speed wireless internet. Blah, blah, blahí¢ä‰åŒ_ The flight was ok. I killed my time playing Prince of Persia for Gameboy Advance and rocking the iPOD. The others bought a bottle of Absolut and killed it before we landed. My seat was too far away to partake in the fun. The flight lasted about 7 hours and we landed at 6:30am. This same day we had to record 4 songs for BBC Radio. It’s odd a metal band like us gets to do this so the opportunity is an honor. This was Ricky Evansand’s, our new drummer, first performance with us outside of the rehearsal room. Everything went smooth and we got done tracking the songs fairly quick. The cover song came out better than I thought it would. Eventually we finished up there and headed to the truck stop where I am now typing this nonsense. I haven’t slept in over a day. Good Nightí¢ä‰åŒ_ Feb 2nd: Oxford I woke up way too early. My usual sleeping pattern is going to bed at 4am and waking in the afternoon. Last night I passed out before midnight and woke up around 7am. I then headed into the truck stop for a shower. Sorry to trail offí¢ä‰åŒ_let me start off by explaining American truck stops. Chimaira’s personal favorite is the Flying J. In a Flying J you can find a good restaurant, high speed internet, a good selection of tour junk, snacks, and clean showers. You pay $7 and you get a bathroom suite to yourself for however long it takes you to get clean. Not the case over hereí¢ä‰åŒ_. The shower I found was the free stall at the end of the bathroom hallway. I walk in to find the opposite of a Flying J. Scum and grime everywhere and a soaked/pube filled floor. After not showering for two days this was my only choice. On goes the jager flip-flops and into the shower I go. Later in the day we had our first instore signing of the tour. Only odd object I remember signing was some tiny skull. We were allowed to take two cds. I took the new Lostprophets and Cradle of Filth’s latest. Tonight was Ricky’s first live gig with Chimaira. Everything went well and the crowd loved him. The drum solo left jaws on the floor. Afterwards we celebrated the sold out gig with rounds of Absinth. The night went blurry from there. more to come….

Aspiring Musicians, Take Note

Posted on February 12, 2008

Regardless of what kind of music you are into, if you are an aspiring musician, we have something for you to read. Check out THIS LINK at TheMusicEdge.com…Nickelback’s Mike Kroeger recently took some time out for an interview piece on this site, one of the best reads you can treat yourself to if you are wanting to read how some bands got where they are today…what you should do as a band starting out…as a band signed to a label…as a band trying to ‘make it’… As Mike tells, “We learned this the old way, through trial and error, with a lot of error. It’s like Keith Richards says, ‘Learning the music business and getting ripped off is a cheap education.’ The small time hood might rip you off for five thousand dollars but actually you just learned something.”

The Crack Of Dawn

Posted on February 12, 2008

Last night, Max and company made their way to a certain location some 7 hours outside of Phoenix. And starting at the crack of dawn yesterday morning (Jan 29), shooting commenced on the new Soulfly video. The song, “Prophecy.” In fact, bassist Dave Ellefson (ex-Megadeth) made the trip and will be in the video, as he actually played bass for the song “Prophecy” on the CD.
