Time Is Money

Posted on February 12, 2008

Cradle Of Filth bassist Dave Pybus has posted his second studio report on the band’s official web site… “Hail. Now we are well into week two of the session and I went home this weekend for a two-day break while guitars were started on the tracks me and Adrian had laid down in the first week. The record is sounding great so far. Still working on a couple of arrangements but its only minor ideas. Guitars always make the songs sound so cool, keyboards even better. When the tracking starts to build up on each song and you turn up the speakers it gives you a buzz like no other. Something we just created out of our heads is now this huge monster ready to rip the face off anyone within ear shot. Great! Just the acoustic sound of Adrian’s Tama drum kit is massive. Best I’ve ever heard to be honest. It was nice to get away for a short time and it’s always good to get back feeling refreshed. I’ve never been a fan of studios personally. It’s a place where you learn patience. And I mean that’s quite hard for someone as impatient as myself. Hurry up and wait syndrome that is behind the music which most people never see. It’s taken me years to learn and be comfortable being around all the fellow band members everyday and night while expressing music almost every waking hour. It’s like a big responsibility and you look for any-which-way to get the job at hand done, knowing time is money and money is… everything (?). Pressure! Being a bit older and more experienced these days I’ve kinda leant to pace myself more and try enjoy our time here. Being in a band with a work ethic is the major key for me. More focus and drive is what inspires me to finish this mad project (OK, it’s no secret, I did quit in a drunken rage while away hehe). Cutting down on drinking also helped, although sharing a room means you spend more time with others, which leads to more sociabilities, usually in the pub. One step forward, two steps back. Accept some things will never change. The artwork has now taken a new turn which is quite a surprise but looks amazing. We are lucky to be in a no lose situation with our art guy Matt Lombard because whatever we don’t choose for the cover can always be used on the inner CD booklet. It’s all fucking great! Plus he’s very flexible to our ideas and works virtually non-stop to get us what we are looking for almost immediately. As the title suggests the subject matter is beautiful, classic women. Tissue paper at the ready lads!!!”

Devil’s Spittle

Posted on February 12, 2008

Summing up the recent tour with Every Time I Die’s vocalist Keith… Jagermeister or Absinthe? Absinthe. It’s actually the devil’s spittle! Do lyrics come before music? Nope, Never. Music first always. Helps me to think about what I’m writing. If you had to swap 1 person from ETID for 1 person in Chimaira, who would it be, and why? I would hand over a dummy and quickly take Jim. Then run before they realize we’ve screwed them. Is there a process to the ETID songwriting? I don’t know. I’m never invited. 3 weeks in a tour bus together, no days off, out of ETID and Chimaira whoí¢ä‰åŒ_ 1. Snores loudest? My grandpa. 2. Is the hardest to wake up? The dead guy in the luggage bay. 3. Goes to bed the earliest? Mark 4. Parties the latest? Jim 5. Has the most stuff? Andy 6. Is the best bus-mate? (Why) My computer, it shows me porn and plays me music. Like any neighborhood creep. 7. Is the cleanest? Me. 8. Is most badly behaved? Probably Jim. He’s got no shame.

Easier Than Ever Before

Posted on February 12, 2008

Over the last couple of days, we’ve had Burton & Christian of Fear Factory in the country for promotion of the forthcoming album ‘Archetype’. We asked our Fear Factory teamers to come up with questions for us to ask… the first three are all answered by Burton. How did you adjust to writing material with a new member, and has it changed your style or sound at all? (Jonathan) Writing the new album was easier than ever before. Adjusting was a breeze, and our sound is still a “classic” and archetypal sound. What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done on tour? (Kate) Well Kate, I am not at liberty to say that! “Crazy” is also a relative term… Which ‘new’ band gets you excited about music today? (Kate) Most bands that I like are not signed, or you’ve never heard of. I enjoy going to local shows in New York City, and drinking!

Prophecy Being Spoken

Posted on February 12, 2008

We are in the month of March, meaning we are less than a month away from the release of Soulfly’s new CD, Prophecy. To commemorate, we ask you to check out www.soulfly.com/ecard to hear new music, and to see the new Soulfly video for “Prophecy.” Each week leading up to release, more music and video footage will be added to the page. Do keep checking back. In other Soulfly news, we have a review in. And it starts out like this, “Let me make this clear, my favorite Max period was Sepultura’s Beneath The Remains and Arise records. Those records are mean as hell, brooding, and technically vile.” WHAT NEXT? Check out www.hitthepit.com for the full review. Soulfly Prophecy in stores March 29th
