A MACHINE HEAD fan — and aspiring guitarist — joined the guys on stage recently at their February 10 concert at Gasometer in Vienna, Austria to perform the song “Aesthetics Of Hate”.
According to a posting on the fan site TakeMyScars.com, a guy in the crowd had a banner which readd “Let Me Play ‘Aesthetics Of Hate’ — Seriously, I Can Play It!”. After some discussion on stage, Robb and the guys invited the fan on stage and in the player below, you can see footage of his performance with the band, shot from the crowd by another fan. Amazing!
THEORY OF A DEADMAN have been having a pretty successful ole time of it when you look back over the past year or so since the release of their current album Scars & Souvenirs. Radio 1 sessions, having the album certified Gold in the USA, a killer UK headline tour, then heading off to support Motley Crue in the US for a second time. How on earth do you top that?? Well, pausing whilst on your North American headline tour to play at the 2010 winter Olympics would be one way…
The Winter Olympics, which this year is being held in the bands home turf of Canada, is marrying music and sports and giving some of the best artists hailing from there the opportunity to rock the stadium during the Medal Ceremonies each night.
On Friday February 19th, Theory of a Deadman will be joining the ranks of Sarah MacLachlan, Rush, Nelly Furtado, Barenaked Ladies (to name but a few) in being part of this great honor in performing in The Victory Concert Series’. While Medals are awarded for the Women’s Snowboarding Half-Pipe competition, the band will be playing a full set which can be streamed right HERE.
Says frontman / underrated comedian Tyler Connolly of the band’s inclusion in the event, “It feels pretty good. The four of us in the band had to compete in races to actually get into it.” The jokester continues, “I won, I did the triathlon, where you cross-country ski with the gun on your back, then shoot at a picture of a bulls-eye. I hit a bulls-eye.”
More seriously, Connolly explains, “It’s going to be pretty awesome. It’s in our hometown, Vancouver, [but] it’s in the middle of a tour, so unfortunately, we’re not going to be able to see anything other than play the show, because we have to leave that night. But it will be great, a lot of friends and family will be there, and we get to play in BC Place, which we’ve never played in before — it’s a huge stadium.”
Whether via TV or computer screen, fans around the world can tune in to NBC or NBConline to catch Theory’s performance in it’s entirety at NBCOlympics.com.
And let’s not forget that the band will be heading into the UK this coming April for another UK headline tour. Dates are as follows and you can pick up tickets online at our Tours Page.

Next week sees the mighty MACHINE HEAD hit the UK on the Black Procession Tour, and we posed some questions to the guys a few weeks back to see if they were looking forward to the tour as much as us, what they love about the UK and the bands they chose for support.
All this week, we have been running a series of video clips recorded with DOMMIN vocalist Kris, where he filled us in on each of the tracks on the band’s debut album Love Is Gone which hits stores on the 15th Feb- Monday, no less!
