Posted on May 10, 2016

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘Come What(ever) May’ Stone Sour’s Josh Rand has shared some demos from the making of the album. Josh posted the following words on the bands Facebook page“In late 2004, after cutting some tracks at Catamount Recording with Joel & Shawn, I decided to build a room in my house to record in. I bought my first Pro Tools rig and the first song I wrote on the new rig was 30/30-150. The drum track was programmed using an Alesis SR-16. I sent it to Corey and when he had a break from touring with Slipknot, he came over & sang on the track. This version is what was given to Jim, Shawn, & Joel.”

Joey Jordison returns with his new band VIMIC

Posted on May 6, 2016

Recognized globally as one of the most prolific drummers in metal, Joey Jordison has unveiled details of his new band, VIMIC.   Rounded out by Kalen Chase [Vocals], Jed Simon [Guitar/Vocals], Kyle Konkiel [Bass/Vocals] and Matt Tarach [Keyboards], VIMIC has debuted “Simple Skeletons,” the first single from their debut LP OPEN YOUR OMEN which is set to arrive later this year on Roadrunner Records.  “Simple Skeletons” is streaming now on VIMIC’s official YouTube channel and available today at all DSPs.

Jordison spoke with Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal host José Mangin about forming VIMIC and the significance of the band’s forthcoming album. “I decided that I really wanted to start fresh. I did not want to keep rehashing some old ideas, if I’m going to keep going I really want to break loose, wipe the slate clean and start fresh,” Jordison stated.  “We went into the studio with (producer) Kato Khandwala and started hashing it out… kind of old school. We went in and said, ‘let’s just go back to being in the studio, jamming as a band, getting together with our instruments… and just creating from the ground up.  That was one of the coolest things about creating this record.’”

Recorded at Sound Farm Studios in Jamaica, Iowa, OPEN YOUR OMEN was produced, mixed and mastered by Kato Khandwala whose production and engineering credits include My Chemical Romance, Blondie, Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, The Pretty Reckless and more.

The career of Joey Jordison is one that, by any measure, stands among the most creative, and impressive in the history of modern American metal.  It is a career that really has been many careers – musician, songwriter, and producer – from small town beginnings to global prominence.  Jordison’s journey has included an extraordinary string of hits, 11 platinum and 40 gold records, and a Grammy Award as well as numerous industry accolades for his top tier musicianship and, above all, an immeasurable influence on countless fellow artists and passionate fans around the world.

Posted on May 6, 2016

Dream Theater, have debuted their official music video for, “Our New World,” taken from their critically acclaimed double concept album, The Astonishing. The video, which premiered with The Wall Street Journal, highlights the band’s immersive and interactive live show and captures the prog-virtuosos’ transcendent performances from their recent world tour. Watch the official video for “Our New World” HERE.

Consisting of 34 tracks spread across 2 unique acts, The Astonishing debuted atop Billboard’s “Rock” and “Hard Rock” album charts, marking the group’s third No. 1 “Hard Rock” album following Black Clouds & Silver Linings and 2013’s self-titled LP. “Even for a group that has blazed new trails consistently, there’s never been anything to compare to The Astonishing, the full-blown rock-opera, jumbo-size concept album… Put simply, the new release lives up to its title in every way imaginable,” exclaimed Rolling Stone.

It’s a place aching for a Chosen One to rise above the noise and defeat an Empire defined by the endless drone of noise machines and the illusion of safety in bland conformity.

The Astonishing is available now at all DSP’s is also available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard 2-CD set, 4-LP vinyl box set and a limited edition deluxe box set, all of which are currently available via Dream Theater’s webstore.

Code Orange sign to Roadrunner Records

Posted on April 27, 2016

Roadrunner Records is excited to announce the signing of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania’s Code Orange. The fast-rising progressive hardcore unit – Jami Morgan (Drums/Vocals), Eric Balderose (Guitar/Vocals), Reba Meyers (Guitar/Vocals), and Joe Goldman (Bass) – have captivated music fans and critics around the globe with their visionary, unrelenting aggression.

Code Orange embark on a U.S. trek with Deftones this May, before hitting the Summer festival circuit. Look for new tunes and UK dates later this year.

Code Orange first turned heads under the moniker Code Orange Kids with a series of tapes and 7-inch singles. At just 17-18 years of age, the band released their 2012 groundbreaking debut LP, Love Is Love / Return To Dust, which NPR declared “…an untamed, unpredictable beast of a hardcore record… a sign of where we’re at in heavy music — fewer boundaries, more ways to crush eardrums.”

In September 2014, with Code Orange approaching their 20’s, the band dropped “Kids” from their name to release their landmark second LP, I Am King, which Pitchfork asserted as “…the most forward-thinking post-hardcore record of 2014” and Kerrang! lauded as, “an exciting glimpse of what rock could look like if more bands started looking forwards rather than backwards,” stating that Code Orange were, “… the most exciting rock band in the world right now.” Rock Sound called the record “breathtaking” and declared, “this band are truly special. Dangerous, defiant, and deeply troubled, they stand apart in every way.” Metal Hammer concurred, saying “it’s clear this is a special band”; describing I Am King as “enthralling”.

As to the band’s live chops, a full-marks 5K live review from Kerrang! went on to rave, “…a live show that has to be seen to be believed. Immersive, bitter, savage – in short, this is everything that punk rock spirit ought to be. If you want to see the future, it’s right here. And brighter than a thousand suns.” Ignoring all genre limitations, a fearless Code Orange have clearly staked their claim at the front of the pack.
Dave Rath, SVP of A&R at Roadrunner Records commented on the signing saying, “Now is the time for the next generation of heavy bands to take the torch and run with it. Code Orange is at the forefront of that generation, pushing the boundaries and changing perceptions of what heavy music will be for the future. As the premier lifestyle label in heavy music, Roadrunner Records is proud to announce Code Orange as part of a roster rich with a history of game-changing bands. This band is sure to change the game for all who follow.”

First conceived as an indie importer of metal albums in 1980, Roadrunner Records has grown into the most significant and innovative label in heavy music culture. Code Orange’s elevated and expansive mixture of hardcore / punk finds them at the forefront of a new generation of artists and cements their places as torchbearers who will continue to further the label’s already historic legacy.
