Josh posted the following words on the bands Facebook page; “In late 2004, after cutting some tracks at Catamount Recording with Joel & Shawn, I decided to build a room in my house to record in. I bought my first Pro Tools rig and the first song I wrote on the new rig was 30/30-150. The drum track was programmed using an Alesis SR-16. I sent it to Corey and when he had a break from touring with Slipknot, he came over & sang on the track. This version is what was given to Jim, Shawn, & Joel.”
Opeth frontman Mikael Akefeldt has spoken to MusicRadar about his 9 top tips for guitarists; “For me as a guitar player, what I want to be is versatile and to become a versatile guitar player you have to listen to music. Different types of music and different types of guitar playing. I didn’t listen to a diverse range of music because I wanted to develop my guitar playing, but it kind of happened naturally because of that.” You can read the full article right here.
Recognized globally as one of the most prolific drummers in metal, Joey Jordison has unveiled details of his new band, VIMIC. Rounded out by Kalen Chase [Vocals], Jed Simon [Guitar/Vocals], Kyle Konkiel [Bass/Vocals] and Matt Tarach [Keyboards], VIMIC has debuted “Simple Skeletons,” the first single from their debut LP OPEN YOUR OMEN which is set to arrive later this year on Roadrunner Records. “Simple Skeletons” is streaming now on VIMIC’s official YouTube channel and available today at all DSPs.
Jordison spoke with Sirius XM’s Liquid Metal host José Mangin about forming VIMIC and the significance of the band’s forthcoming album. “I decided that I really wanted to start fresh. I did not want to keep rehashing some old ideas, if I’m going to keep going I really want to break loose, wipe the slate clean and start fresh,” Jordison stated. “We went into the studio with (producer) Kato Khandwala and started hashing it out… kind of old school. We went in and said, ‘let’s just go back to being in the studio, jamming as a band, getting together with our instruments… and just creating from the ground up. That was one of the coolest things about creating this record.’”
Recorded at Sound Farm Studios in Jamaica, Iowa, OPEN YOUR OMEN was produced, mixed and mastered by Kato Khandwala whose production and engineering credits include My Chemical Romance, Blondie, Breaking Benjamin, Paramore, The Pretty Reckless and more.
The career of Joey Jordison is one that, by any measure, stands among the most creative, and impressive in the history of modern American metal. Dream Theater, have debuted their official music video for, “Our New World,” taken from their critically acclaimed double concept album, The Astonishing. The video, which premiered with The Wall Street Journal, highlights the band’s immersive and interactive live show and captures the prog-virtuosos’ transcendent performances from their recent world tour. Consisting of 34 tracks spread across 2 unique acts, The Astonishing debuted atop Billboard’s “Rock” and “Hard Rock” album charts, marking the group’s third No. 1 “Hard Rock” album following Black Clouds & Silver Linings and 2013’s self-titled LP. “Even for a group that has blazed new trails consistently, there’s never been anything to compare to The Astonishing, the full-blown rock-opera, jumbo-size concept album… Put simply, the new release lives up to its title in every way imaginable,” exclaimed Rolling Stone.
Recorded at Cove City Sound Studios in Glen Cove, New York, with John Petrucci producing, studio luminary Richard Chycki (Aerosmith, Rush) engineering/mixing and legendary arranger, composer and conductor David Campbell orchestrating, The Astonishing paints a tale of a retro-futurist post-apocalyptic dystopia ruled by medieval style feudalism. It’s a place aching for a Chosen One to rise above the noise and defeat an Empire defined by the endless drone of noise machines and the illusion of safety in bland conformity.
The Astonishing is available now at all DSP’s is also available in a wide range of distinctive versions, including standard 2-CD set, 4-LP vinyl box set and a limited edition deluxe box set, all of which are currently available via Dream Theater’s webstore.
