The mighty MASTODON have announced that they will be collaborating with Feist on an upcoming project for Record Store Day. The limited-edition 7 inch single is due next year. The Atlanta metallers met the Canadian singer on ‘Later…with Jools Holland’. Feist has been quoting as saying that she met the band and knew “these two worlds [should] collide”.
Bassist Troy Sanders spoke to MTV Canada and said, “We’re going to do everything we can to work with Feist and have a split 7 inch to support independent record stores”.
International Record Store Day will take place on 21 April 2012 and the idea behind this collaboration is for Mastodon to cover a Feist song and ‘throw some hair and dirt on it’ and Feist will take a Mastodon song and add her twinkly touch.
Feist has been very complimentary about her counterparts and it seems she’s a fan of the band’s new album, The Hunter, too:
“…so I’m like, ‘How about ‘Metals’ meeting metal?’ Brent was like: ‘Well, I do like that Bad in Each Other song, I could see that.’ Maybe now I will look into learning to cover Oblivion, or anything off [The Hunter]. That album’s amazing.”
We’re secretly hoping MASTODON attack 1 2 3 4 with metal riffs and prog rock awesomeness.
