Newcomers MUTINY WITHIN will release their debut self titled album in the US next month, and later this year in UK. Vocalist Chris may be the frontman of a US based band, which was signed by the US office of a worldwide label, but he is in fact a fellow Brit! We thought it would be cool to chat to him a little about his roots and what makes him tick!
What were you doing when we interrupted you to do this interview:
Drinking a cup of tea and working on a track i’m mixing for a band called “Hit The Lights”.
Date of Birth?
25 November 1984
Where did you go to school
A school called “Millfield High School” in Thornton-Cleveleys
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A musician of some sort, or at least doing some work within the music industry. It’s all I ever wanted to do and I focused all of my plans, time and energy into making it happen.
Tell us a little about your first band- name, how old you were, what you sounded like etc.
I was 14 and in high school and a guy wanted to start a band. He was a singer and put together a group of musicians from around the school. We had one band practice and decided to sack the singer and carry on without him. We were called “Mantra” and played everything from Blink 182 to Iron Maiden, Metallica, Meatloaf and Guns and Roses. I played guitar in the band and ended up drawing the short straw and being forced to sing.
Track of the moment?
Mud On The Tires – Brad Paisley
Album of the moment?
Karnivool – Themata. It sounds like a more mood-driven, ambient Tool. I still haven’t heard the new album but i’m told that’s awesome too.
Beverage of choice
Thwaites – Wainwright!
Food of choice?
Beans on toast.
Movie of the moment?
Interview With A Vampire
Highlight of your career so far?
Turning on WWE Raw a few months ago and hearing my voice echoing around the arena as Evan Bourne walked out. Playing with Machine Head in Long Island is a close second. I love that band and to play with them was incredible.
Random Fact (about you or anything!)
Crabsticks do not actually contain any crab, and from 1993 manufacturers have been legally obliged to label them ‘crab-flavoured sticks’.
Watch this space for more news on when you will be able to get your mits on their debut here in the UK!
