WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD- BEN WELLS (BLACK STONE CHERRY)

Posted on September 12, 2009

This weeks What’s On Your iPod comes courtesy of BLACK STONE CHERRY’S very own Ben Wells. A cracking selection of tracks here, and if you are not familiar with Black Stone Cherry, it gives you a bit of an insight into the band and what musical direction they are coming from.

Creedence Clearwater Revival- Run Through The Jungle
This is by far the best swamp, southern rock band that ever existed. I’ve always loved CCR and their vibe they create when they play. John Fogerty is a legend and his voice still sounds good today. I think this song is one of the best examples of what CCR was all about in the 60’s.

Elvis Presley- Promised Land
What can I say…Elvis is King. My number 1 idol since birth I do believe. I’ve always loved Elvis’ music, movies, personality, everything. If you don’t like Elvis…you’re no friend of mine..sorry.

Old Crow Medicine Show- Wagon Wheel
When I listen to Old Crow, it reminds me of home and the Kentucky/Tennessee area. Being from Kentucky, I love bluegrass and old timey music and even thought Old Crow Medicine Show are younger guys, they really understand the heritage of the music they play and it just puts you in an appalachian state of mind. Wagon Wheel is an excellent feel good song.

Stray Cats- Rumble In Brighton
Brian Setzer is one of my favorite guitarists. A musical genuis he is! Stray Cats have a terrific vibe and energy in their music that comes from the early days of Sun Records and 50’s and 60’s boogie, swing, rockabilly, county, and blues music! I love ’em! This song is great and really shows their skills!

Jason Aldean- She’s Country
I obviously have a country side to me. Jason Aldean is a newer artist and straddles the county and rock fence. Some of his riffs even sound like something we’d play! I dig his story, his music, and the heaviness he incorporates with traditional country sounds. She’s County might as well have been a BSC song!
