WHAT’S ON YOUR IPOD- MARC MCKNIGHT (ATREYU)

Posted on August 22, 2009

We are pretty excited here at the Roadrunner office. We heard three new tracks from the upcoming Atreyu album AND they will be in the country next week to play the Reading / Leeds Festival (Saturday and Friday respectively) so we figured we would shuffle the iPod of an Atreyu member this week.

Bass player Marc has always been good company at the bar / jukebox, so we opted for his pod for the shuffling action and this is what he came back to us with- great tracks and some great anecdotes too. Enjoy!

Nine Inch Nails – The Great Destroyer
So psyched this was the first song that came up. I’ve been a huge NIN fan since I was sneaking a walkman into class in 6th grade listening to tapes of The Downward Spiral and Pretty Hate Machine. The first time I heard this song I was on a mountaintop buddhist community in Japan (I’m not kidding either, haha.) I remember walking down a 2 mile path through a graveyard forest, dumbfounded by the beauty of the song and my surroundings.

Everytime I Die – Guitarred And Feathered
If you haven’t seen this band live yet, go to their site and find out when they’re playing nearest to you as their shows are a blast. I remember once on Ozzfest 04 Jordan their guitar player was like 700$ in debt to Hatebreed’s tour manager Sully in a dice game. Sully said he’d wipe the debt clean if Jordan got “Sully” tattooed in the Slayer font on his leg. Needless to say there were MANY debts paid off by shitty tattoos that tour.

The Receiving End Of Sirens – The Salesman, The Husband, The Lover
This band sadly broke up before their prime. The two records they wrote have become staples of my listening Library and I just wish we could be graced with more! I remember going to see some random band at Showcase theatre in Corona, CA and TREOS were opening up. I think after the first minute of them playing I went to buy the CD. I’ve NEVER ever done that, and haven’t since sadly.

Between the Buried and Me – All Bodies
This band is SO ridiculously talented it’s not even fair. They released a cover album not too long ago with songs from almost every genre possible and shredded the shit out of all of em. I figured they were tired of people saying that metal wasn’t hard to play? Or maybe just wanted to prove their diversity? I don’t know either way but they still blow me away. One time on Ozzfest 06 during this ABSURDLY epic part of their songs the stage manager made a mini stonehenge like in Spinal tap and lowered it onto the stage while a “little person” danced around it. Priceless.

Radiohead – Where I End And You Begin
I think everything I’ve ever heard from this band has become an instant classic since the first time I saw ‘Paranoid Android’ on MTV when I was in like 5th grade. Still yet to see them live though I’d probably punch your mother in the face if her face was a ticket dispense and my fist were a quarter (pound?)…
