Red Tape, the latest addition to the Roadrunner roster adds a new addition of their own. “We is expanding the big fat sound by adding another guitar,” tells vocalist and former sole guitarist Jeff Jaworski. Enter Mark Meraji, local Sacto (that’s Sacramento for the laymen) punk musician & long time friend. “Me and Mark been jamming day in and day out to get him up to speed on our 20+ song set list,” Mark explains. “He has about a month to jump thru his ass and be ready to play in February, then record in March.” In other Red Tape news, the band has been working on 12 new songs and will start pre-production next week. They plan to still be writing new material into next month, and then start the pure focus on the recording… If you have yet to do such, please make sure to check out our MUSIC section for an MP3 download of “Stalingrad” from Red Tape…the musical equivalent of a dirty nuke loaded with aggression, melody, steel nails and rocks. more to come…

Revolution 100 Times Over

Posted on February 12, 2008

Wondering what Ill Nino has been up to since the last time they bulldozed through your town? We caught up with bassist Laz Pina taking a smoke outside the band’s New Jersey rehearsal space. The answer was simple: Ill Nino has been writing their collective asses off and have a shit-load of new songs. The goal: Getting into the studio in the next few months for the follow-up to 2001’s Revolution…Revolucion. í¢ä‰åñWe’ve been writing,í¢ä‰åŒ Laz said simply. í¢ä‰åñJust trying to bring out the sincerest, truest, best music we possibly can.í¢ä‰åŒ If Laz seems confident, who can blame him? Dec, 2002 found the band wrapping up nearly two years touring the globe with a run of sold out shows culminating in a beyond-packed return to the place it all began for Los Ninos: New Jersey’s Birch Hill on Dec 21. í¢ä‰åñWe sold out both New York and New Jersey shows which was really gratifying for us as a band. It was a good closure for this record and a good way to start it up again — to begin the next chapter for this band.í¢ä‰åŒ The music the band has written so far (having penned roughly 15 complete or partially complete songs) is Ill Nino to the core. The band is presently beginning to talk to producers and mixers for the yet untitled second album: But you can literally feel all six band members chomping at the bit to get it all on tape. í¢ä‰åñIt feels like two years of blood, sweat and tears pouring out of us,í¢ä‰åŒ states Laz. í¢ä‰åñWe’re staying true to who we are. We’re being very careful in the writing so that we’re not going to cross the foundations of this band í¢ä‰åäóì it’s definitely still heavy. There’s plenty of people who love us for that and that’s definitely a part of what we do í¢ä‰åäóì as well as melody. í¢ä‰åñWe’re all taking part in the writing and the ideas are coming together a lot better and a lot faster than I expected,í¢ä‰åŒ the bassist continues. Simple fact: when Ill Nino penned Revolution…Revolucion, they were a young band, trying to get a record together with one mission: To blow the world away. Well, that they did. The new material shows a band who knows who the fuck they are í¢ä‰åäóì while firing on all cylinders. You can hear it in the way drummer Dave Chavarri beats the crap out of his drums to the alternating brutal riffs and delicate Spanish chords erupting out of guitarists Marc Rizzo and Jardel Paisante to percussionist Roger Vasquez’s extra-spicy beats. You can hear it in frontman Cris Machado’s vocals when he steps to the mic on the new material. His voice is deeper, richer and more melodic at some points í¢ä‰åäóì heavier at others, but unmistakably, a force to be reckoned with í¢ä‰åäóì more now than ever. í¢ä‰åñCris shines on the new material,í¢ä‰åŒ Laz enthuses. í¢ä‰åñBut then again, I think we all do. I think you hear a lot more of all of us. Then again, after two years on the road, playing together every day, we’ve grown together as a band,í¢ä‰åŒ If there’s anything the fans can expect when they finally hear Ill Nino’s latest in a few months? Laz takes another drag. You can literally hear him smiling over the phone. í¢ä‰åñThink Revolutioní¢ä‰åŒ_ times a hundred!í¢ä‰åŒ You can already hear the Ill Nino soundclash getting a hell of a lot louder.

That’s Almost A Wrap!!

Folks, there is going to be a lot of great new shit coming your way in 2002…Chimaira’s upcoming The Impossibility Of Reason definitely holds some real estate up at the top of that list. A few of the members in Chimaira most recently rang in the New Year by spending the night with members of Sw1tched and High Point jamming to Metallica, Sepultura, and Pantera tunes…a very fitting way to ring in 2003. Onward and upward…Chimaira plan to wrap up recording of The Impossibility Of Reason this week, of which you can expect 14 songs of “pure fucking metal mayhem.” “Every song is 1,000 times better then anything we have ever put forth on a record,” vocalist Mark Hunter proudly tells. And ya know what, judging by the reactions of people here who have heard the new music, Mark is 1,000% right. The band will start mixing later this month on the 20th…and before you know it, they will be back on the road touring, where you can “expect to see the N.W.O.A.H.M. everywhere this year.” “The N.W.O.A.H.M.” of course stands for the new wave of American heavy metal. Have band…have metal…”will go to Iraq and play if they let us,” Mark exclaims. You have been warned. more to come…
