STONE SOUR’s guitarist Josh Rand has supplied us with the following update. —— “As we roll into week four of the recording process for the new record, a lot has happened. Starting off with a week of pre-production as Nick pushed us to the brink and back, we fine tuned the songs for the record. Now with eighteen tracks slated to be recorded we were ready to begin recording the drum tracks. Two weeks into the recording of the drums Joel would have to leave the project and return home to his family. His nine-year-old son is very sick. He was diagnosed with Brain Stem Glioma (brain cancer) last fall. With the fate of the record now up in the air a decision had to be made- postpone the record or bring in someone to finish the drum tracks. So with Joel’s blessing, Roy Mayorga will finish the drum tracks as we move forward. On behalf of myself and the rest of Stone Sour our prayers go out to the Ekmans.” God Bless, Josh Stone Sour”
We managed to catch up with SOULFLY’s – MARC RIZZO on their recent UK tour, to have a general catch up with him in this short interview. How has the tour gone, and have there been any particular high points? Yes, playing the Astoria was awesome. How does it feel to be performing Sepultura tracks with Max? It’s so cool because I’ve been playing those tracks for years, so now to play them with Max is a real trip. How have you found the crowd response to the material from í¢äåñDark Agesí¢äå? Amazing, they know all the words already. You were previously in Ill Nino, how does Soulfly compare? Being in Soulfly feels more like a band. Max is totally cool to work with. I get more freedom in Soulfly and I get encouraged by Max to play my best, where as in Ill Nino I was being held back. Dark Ages is a far more progressive and brutal album than Soulfly’s earlier stuff. What are you feelings about the album and its sound as a whole? I think Dark Ages is the best of all the eras of music Max has been involved in. Dark Ages is my favourite Soulfly record. The guitar work on this album seems to have a greater sense of complexity, how did you go about writing these parts with Max? Max is a fan of thrash metal guitar and so am I. Like I said before Max gives me a lot of freedom to experiment with complex parts and I know he has always been into and when he writes riffs I think he keeps in mind that I could put a lead in top of a riff. What do you think has created the Marc Rizzo guitar sound? I.e. what are your influences musically, and specifically on the guitar? Between my solo CD í¢äåñCollapse Myopiaí¢äå and í¢äåñProphecyí¢äå and í¢äåñDark Agesí¢äå I’ve really gotten to develop a style which would be a mixture of flamenco guitar and shred metal. What is next for you and the band? Tour and record more records.

Welcome to part 3 of an indepth Q&A with Caliban regarding their forthcoming album The Undying Darkness.
Name?
Patrick Grí_n Instrument?
Drums How were the recording sessions for the new album?
The recording sessions of í¢äåñThe Undying Darknessí¢äå, or as Marco likes to spell it í¢äåñUndying Darknessí¢äå were quite funny yet very exhausting at times. Nevertheless, we made it fun and delivered a great new album. We were so anxious to hear the mastered version, so it was tough for us to have to wait for several weeks until we got to hear it because it was with Sneap in England. When Marc finally came back we could listen to the album and I think Andy Sneap did a great job once again. This time around we also had some guest appearances on the album, which made the time in the studio that much more enjoyable. As for myself, I am very proud to have had Mille of Kreator sing on our record. I’ve known him since a few years now and I know that he only does guest vocals if he really likes the songs. Plus I have been listening to Kreator since the start of their career and once have been a huge fan. I kinda still am but don’t tell Mille. Word associations: Caliban í¢äåäóì One of the best decisions of my life. Music í¢äåäóì I couldn’t live without it. It’s my life. Simpsons í¢äåäóì Always funny even when we have to watch it on every tour, thanks to Marc. Andi í¢äåäóì A very sweet person that I wouldn’t wanna miss. Denis – the menace! I think no other title would suit him more. Marc í¢äåäóì A true perfectionist who knows which way he has to go. Marco í¢äåäóì My problem child. Sometimes I don’t know what he’d do without me. Probaly still be in jail in Serbia. Patrick í¢äåäóì Well, I like me. 🙂 Anders Friden í¢äåäóì A great person and an awesome producer, musician, and singer. Roadrunner í¢äåäóì Couldn’t have imagined to be on a better label. Only crazy people but the best! Cheese – “Hello Mr. Cheese”. Nice to be hier in the Cheese cafe! Juice – A lot of things come to mind but I don’t wanna say them on here. But I do like drinking it on occassion. Internet – I never knew what all the hype was about until I got into it as well. Now I find myself in front of it for hours. “The Undying Darkness” í¢äåäóì Best album Caliban ever made. Scooter í¢äåäóì A few years ago I had to give a comment on them and my opinion hasn’t changed. They suck! Sport í¢äåäóì Been active for years but over the last 10 years I have been a bit sloppy. Deutsche Bahn (German Railway Company) í¢äåäóì I don’t know but I think I have a train phobia. I’ve only been on a trainride a few times but I have always been so tense that I can’t really say whether it was good or bad. Videogames í¢äåäóì I have never been into it. Beer í¢äåäóì I have always been into it. Robbie Williams – Cool! Most of his songs are great. Hardcore í¢äåäóì Underestimated in the beginning. Metal í¢äåäóì I grew up on it. Tokyo Hotel í¢äåäóì I think they suck! They are really arrogant little kids. But come the end of next year no one will care about them any more. Live-Shows í¢äåäóì The reason I am making music.
