Extreme metallers SATYRICON recently played 3 UK dates as part of their current European run of shows in support of their current album THE AGE OF NERO. KERRANG journo’s were in attendance, and it seemed they had a bit of a blast. If you missed the tour, check out the review below and make sure that you are in attendance when they next hit the UK!!!
“There’s no questioning the unstoppable force of Satyricon, however. Satyr is in fine fettle this evening, even if his new look (slimmed-down figure, slicked back hair) is less metal overlord, more Andrew Eldritch – perhaps a suitable icon to invoke, as a continual streamlining of his music increasingly echoes the direct-yet-grandiose, coldly sexual and knowingly camp sound of late 80’s Sisters Of Mercy. But where the latter relied on a drum machine, Satyricon have Frost, a drummer who could probably take on an electronic rival and win, judging by the precision blasting he delivers tonight, laying a perfect battery over which band spray immense, undeniable riffs.
Indeed, it’s these riffs – written by Satyr, performed live by he hired guns who make up the rest of Satyricon – which are key to the appeal of these metal veterans. Satyr has a knack for coming up with guitar lines which sound obvious in the best possible way: designed as precisely as a mathematical equation, but with deathless hooks which align them far closer to classic rock and metal of the ‘90s Norway (speaking of which, you can’t imagine, say, Gorgoroth coming onstage to AC/DC’s Hell’s Bells). As a smattering of oldies fit round a set drawing largely from Now, Diabolical and this years stellar The Age Of Nero, it vision sounds like nothing so much as victory: this is a simply majestic display of power.” KKKK

The staff over at FHM magazine have decided that Roadrunner’s fave Floriadian’s TRIVIUM are quite frankly, the bees knees. Or, to be more specific, that new album SHOGUN is one of the top 5 releases of the year!!
“Shogun is a metal album that’s accessible without compromising on brutality. Tracks like Into The Mouth Of Hell We March is metal at its best; loud, fast, fun and chock-full of references to His Infernal Majesty.”
Check out their ful review and their complete top 5 HERE.
