Blabbermouth reports SLIPKNOT percussionist M. Shawn “Clown” Crahan is to host a special new-band showcase on Monday, January 29 at Sin-E (150 Attorney St.) in New York City.
Performing that night will be:
* DIRTFEDD: A metal act based in Lincoln, Nebraska that has a fan base that thrives on the group's live shows. They've shared the stage with acts such as LAMB OF GOD, UNEARTH, GOD FORBID, ILL NINO, FLAW, 40 BELOW SUMMER, HED(P.E.), and many others. They spent most of 2006 touring in and around the Midwest.
* MURDER OF CROWS: Hailing from Denver, MURDER OF CROWS recently finished up their as-yet-untitled debut album produced by Crahan. They spent much of 2006 on the road and 2007 looks to be no different. Complacency and blandness is suffered by millions each day. MURDER OF CROWS has the antidote.
* AFREUDIANSLIP: Emerging from the Baltimore scene that's mainly saturated with pop-punk and pop-rock acts is this four-piece metal band. Their full-on, high energy show has built them an amazingly loyal fanbase, packing clubs throughout the Baltimore/Washington region; as well as gaining airplay on all major rock and active rock regions in the area. The wide array of musical influences of each member creates a unique sound that makes AFREUDIANSLIP a standout act in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Tickets are $5 at the door. Must be 21+ w/ ID. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Show starts at 7:00 p.m. Sin-E is located at 150 Attorney St. (located between Houston and Stanton and three blocks east of Avenue A) in New York City. Tel. #: 212.388.0077.

Blabbermouth reports that Dave Mustaine and Dean Guitars have joined forces to create a signature guitar that even surpasses the standards of the Megadeth mastermind himself. Ladies and gentleman, meet the Vehement: VMNT.
“The whole process has been surreal,” said Mustaine. “It's been dream-like, but is more real than any dream I've ever had. They understand what a guitarist expects out of his gear, and we share a vision, a loyalty and an understanding of guitars. Working with Dean has been one of the greatest thrills for me as a musician.”
Commenting on his new Dean guitar, Mustaine said, “We designed this thing… the last couple of hours. [Laughs] it feels like that. Dean [Dean Guitars founder Dean B. Zelinsky] I talked a little bit over a month and a half ago. And we just went into the shop and started bulding this [guitar] right away. We wanted to make it play better than any of the other guitars I had, so we took a lot the old guitars that had really good things about them, and we added it all together, and this is the end result.”
When asked why he chose Dean over other guitar companies, Mustaine said, “Because they understand the value of Dave Mustaine and Megadeth. And it's mutual. I know that this is the right place for me to finish out my career, endorsing their products, and having my guitars made by Dean.”
“Having Dave Mustaine join the Dean family is a dream come true for me,” says Dean Guitars CEO Elliott Rubinson. “We pride ourselves on having the world's greatest players playing our instruments and Dave is certainly the company that we are proud to keep. We think the VMNT series of guitars will be the best playing and sounding guitars Dave Mustaine fans have ever seen.”
The initial model in this exclusive line will be limited to a worldwide run of only 150 pieces. This guitar will be a signature Mustaine V with a heavily flamed top, Dave Mustaine custom Live Wires pickups, ebony fingerboard and gold hardware. Players and collectors can choose from three finishes – Transparent Amber, Transparent Red and Transparent Black. The guitar will include a stenciled hardshell case and a Deth certificate hand signed by Dave Mustaine himself. The second guitar is the Dean Dave Mustaine VMNT import complete with the custom Live Wires pickups, Grover tuners and hardshell case. The guitar is available in Classic Black or Metallic Silver and the first 500 sold will include a Megadeth CD signed by the man himself. Retail price of the Dean VMNT is $1,520.
Working on their third studio album, DevilDriver have announce the title to be ‘The Last Kind Words’
Singer Dez Fafara said of the Jason Suecof (Trivium, Chimaira) produced album, “In a time when most bands are trying to be METALLICA, PANTERA, or IRON MAIDEN, we have made sure our sound is exclusively DEVILDRIVER. The songs are faster and more riffy than on 'The Fury Of Our Maker's Hand', and there are also more solos. But with all the same groove that makes DEVILDRIVER different.”
Megadeth.com’s forums are a busy place and with regular updates from the band, the guys like to keep you guys in the know…
Dave Mustaine has posted the following message in the “Forums” section of the bands official web site:
“It was great seeing some of the guitarists that were at [the] Dean [booth at NAMM in Anaheim, California] that I respect as players (most of them from when I was developing my own style) like Rik Emmett from TRIUMPH, and Rudy Schenker from the SCORPIONS. I missed Leslie 'Green' West (inside joke) and saw a lot of other people that went by in a blur; Phil from ARMORED SAINT, Rita (Darrell's [Abbott] girl), and numerous people I thought were out of the business or presumed dead.
“One guy walked up to me and introduced his kids, and said something like, 'It's good seeing you again, . . . how you been?' and my brain started itching because I didn't know this guy from a hole in the ground.
“Ah, and you want to be famous?
“So, yes the May 8th date is finally confirmed [for the new MEGADETH album, 'United Abominations' now that the mix is nearly done. I hate saying when release dates are, because sometimes they change, and you have to deal with naysayers who behave like the ultimate inch of colon, but I would rather this record was finished to my standards, and above (which it is . . . about time, I know) then put out a soft record.
“Metal needs a really good old-school record again. I believe I have delivered. It ain't 'Rust in Peace 2', but it could be the record that makes me forget about everything in between.”

Also delivering an update is Megadeth Bassist James LoMenzo:
“Thought I’d drop a quick one for you Mega-friends/fans out there to let you know how stoked I am with the final songs I’ve just heard from United Abominations. This Shit Slams! Dave (Mustaine) and Glen (Drover) have outdone themselves (as usual) on their last bits and now we’re all waiting for Andy (Sneap) to do his mix thing and “bring the metal”. I know he’ll make it as sonically destructive as todays electronics can handle but just to be on the safe side, I’d pick up a back up MP3/CD player. Participating in the making of this, my first Megadeth album, has been a real treat for me. Working with Dave has been wildly inspirational. His tenacity, conviction and drive serve as a total inspiration and I believe he’s brought the best out in all of us. Of course I’ve said it before, but Glen and Shawn are world class in every sense of the word and it’s an honor to play beside them.
I want to thank all the Fan Club members for a great chat last week, I had a blast… very cool questions (thanks). Sorry there's no transcript, I guess the webmaster's dog ate it! (Just kidding D.)
I also want to thank the fans who took the time to wish me a happy birthday last week, very cool and much appreciated!
Hey, for those of you who’ll be down at the NAMM show (Saturday, January 20th) stop by either the Rotosound booth (4905 at 1:30), or Electro-voice (6571 at 2:30). I’ll look forward to meeting, signing stuff and hanging with you.
Dave, Glen, Shawn and I are looking forward to a kick ass year with all of you!”

Blabbermouth reports that Trivium drummer Travis Smith has given an interview with Australia’s Beat Magazine, he tells Beat that he grew up on thrash metal, and now Lars Ulrich is one of their biggest fans!
Asked how it felt to share stages with his heroes, Smith responded, “It's an honor to play with bands like [IRON] MAIDEN and METALLICA, but it's not like a strike of good luck. It's come from all the hard work we've put in, the last six years of busting our ass. They notice how hungry we are. I think they respect that, because we remind them of themselves when they were our age.”
Due to the success they've had at a young age, TRIVIUM get flack for being rich boys who've had it served up on a platter. “That's people who don't have a clue what's going on,” Smith retorted. “Maybe they don't understand how you can be 18, 19 or 20 and be so set on what you want in life. Maybe they weren't as headstrong, so they don't get it. Sure, we're living our dream at a very young age, but we've worked very hard and we're very focused. It's not our fault if they didn't do the same or haven't made it as far as we have. They chose their path, we chose ours.”
The other thing that gets Smith's goat is genre labelling. “It's a bit much at times,” he said. “In one of our first features in a U.K. magazine, the headline was 'Metalcore,' and we've been fighting it ever since. At first, I'd get really annoyed, but now I think people around the world understand what we're all about. They want to throw you into a category, but we don't want a part of it. So if you have to throw us into a category… don't. We're just TRIVIUM.”
