BEST MEGADETH RECORD EVER

Posted on February 12, 2008

I can say that I have absolutely made my best MEGADETH record, ever.

Dave Mustaine's endorsement for the forthcoming 'United Abominations'

MEGADETH's new official biography contains several quotes from the band's mainman, Dave Mustaine, about the musical direction of MEGADETH's upcoming album, “United Abonimations“, and Mustaine's lyrical approach on the new CD. Read on:

On MEGADETH's new CD, “United Abominations“, being “a career landmark album”:

“It's kind of a defibrillator for the metal community. Somebody's got to step up to the plate, play solos again, and play heavy rhythms that are actually recorded live in the studio ? because it ain't the same six seconds pasted 300 times. Somebody had to do it again.”

“It's really invigorating to go back to playing thrash and speed metal. I started playing this type of music because I loved the way it made me feel. When I started the turnaround with 'The World Needs a Hero' and 'The System Has Failed', it was obvious this was going to be where the buck stops.”

On the recording sessions for “United Abominations“:

“We were in the studio and Glen [Drover, guitar] had put his rhythms down on 'Sleepwalker'. And Andy [Sneap, producer/mixer] said to me, 'You know you don't really need to put your rhythm down there,' And I said, 'Oh yeah I do. My rhythm style is totally different from anybody's.' And as soon as I started playing, he goes, 'That's right! It's an old-school digging in, innit?' And I said, 'Yeah Andy. That's it.'”

On the new album's lyrical approach:

“If you have the goods musically, you can say whatever you want, and [on this album] I basically said it. I said how I feel about the United Nations. I said how I feel about the New World Order. I said how I feel about the ignorance and apathy of our fathers right now that are leading our country who are just letting everything be taken away from us.”

“It's OK to practice freedom of speech, assembly, the press, religion, except when it comes to making you unpopular. When you take a stand for what's right you often become unpopular. I'm not a really popular guy. I may be semi-famous but I'm really more infamous than famous.”

“I know there are some people who are prejudiced against this type of music. But I'm ready to get out there and see what the response is going to be like from the public.

“I can say that I have absolutely made my best MEGADETH record, ever.”

United Abominations” is scheduled for a May release.

THIS IS YOUR CHANCE

Posted on February 12, 2008

Posted on Satyricon’s website, is a chance you black metal guitarists have been waiting for! Check out the update from the Satyricon website below:

“We are looking to recruit a rhythm guitar player and a bass player for our live band, with immediate effect.

“You are a skilled musician with some touring experience. Your age is of no big concern, if you are good enough, you are good enough. However, you need to be relentlessly hungry and ambitious in your work with SATYRICON. SATYRICON is during touring cycles, a very time consuming effort and SATYRICON would be your number one musical priority. If you do not wish to re-locate to Oslo our nearby, you will have to travel and be available for rehearsal in Oslo whenever called upon. We will consider candidates from anywhere in the world. If you think you have what it takes, you will be invited to come jam with SATYRICON in Oslo as soon as possible. When e-mailing us, take your time to tell us a little bit about your musical background as a player and as a fan. Also include some information about your age, where you live, what you do etc. This is your chance — take it! E-mail us at musician@satyricon.no.”

The video for Satyricon’s ‘The Pentagram Burns’ is available here (Quicktime required) and photos from the video shoot can be found at this location

The video was filmed in Oslo, Norway by director H

SOUR AUDIENCE?

Posted on February 12, 2008

Stone Sour played in front of a different kind of audience recently, when they supported Evanescence on their Canadian tour. Jim Root, Stone Sour guitarist, explains to Launch Radio Networks,

“They were really big, great shows, and EVANESCENCE, great band to tour with,” he said. “But the crowd was very docile, you know, and with EVANESCENCE I think you kind of, you walk that line between, you know, like a rock band and a pop band, so to speak. I think there was a lot of people there that hadn't heard of us before and didn't really know anything about what we were about. So it was cool because, you know, we were able to be put in front of a, like a different type of audience.”

Sillyworld’ is Stone Sour’s latest single, from their awesome album “Come What(ever) May“, and the video can be viewed at this location.

MACHINE TRIANGLE

Posted on February 12, 2008

The Triangle Online recently interviewed Machine Head guitarist Phil Demmel, Blabbermouth reports the excerpts below:

On the new album, “The Blackening“:

“[It is] socially conscious album, more so than the previous records. There's a couple of political songs on [the record]. We're not a political band by any means, but that's the only common thread.”

On the band's change in sound on the new CD:

“We're a different band. Originally, most of the last record — most of the main parts — was pretty much written when I joined … except for two or three songs. If you listen to those songs, you see what I contributed to, and the direction that we're going here. I follow Dave [McClain, drummer] a little bit longer; [the songs are] a lot more dynamic in structure. You'll be introduced to some more intricate riffing; we kind of just moved toward large ends and stuff like that.”

On having fans come in and record a backup vocal part for the album:

“It was cool to have them be a part of what we were doing. That part of the song with chanting really needed key vocals. What better group of people than the people who are going out and supporting you, and buying the album, to give that opportunity to be a part of it?”

On the fact that the new album has already managed to make its way all over the Internet:

“It's important to note that it kind of is, in a sense, to our advantage because the album is a great album. It's getting a pre-release buzz going. There are people that aren't going to buy CDs no matter what you do. I think this will definitely get people that are more on the fence about it to go toward making the purchase.”
