SOULFLY DEMO POSTED ONLINE

Posted on February 12, 2008

Soulfly have posted the following message on their official website:

“Last month Max [Cavalera] gave us the permission to release one of his newest songs, the 'Inflikted' four-track demo, for the world to hear in its unfinished form, many months before it has even had the chance to be properly recorded for an album. Max agreed to do this in order give his fans an inside look at the process that he goes through to assemble his albums, and in doing so, he hopes to expand views of how music should be created. Although the response to 'Inflikted' has been amazing (and Doctors Without Borders has been very thankful for the donations), we were very disappointed to learn that because of current copyright restrictions governing the sale of online music we aren't allowed to distribute the song to any SOULFLY fans outside of North America. As a result, as an apology to SOULFLY fans throughout the rest of the world, 'Inflikted' has been made available for SOULFLY fans everywhere to listen to for free in streaming audio from our MySpace player wherever an internet connection is available! You are encouraged to click [here], listen in, discuss, and patiently enjoy the road to the next SOULFLY album.

“Also, SOULFLY would like to thank all of the fans in the United States who have shown their undying support to Max and the band and have vowed to follow the evolution of the next album from day one. As a result, Max has searched through piles of old and forgotten tapes hidden away at his Phoenix, Arizona compound in order to resurrect a song that can only be described as legendary from the perspective of almost any SOULFLY fan. Consequently, not only will the 'Inflikted' four-track demo be available, but we've also added the original 'Eye for an Eye' four-track demo in streaming audio at the MySpace site, as well!

“What this essentially means is that now you can listen to the oldest and newest (literally) SOULFLY songs ever written in their unedited entirety completely for free.

“Upon first listen to the 'Eye for an Eye' dour-track, you may notice several things. Although the structure of the song is very similar to the song that made it to the pressing of the original SOULFLY album in 1998, there are many aspects of the song that have drastically morphed before the track received its final mixed — including the lyrics (which can be viewed in the original version in the thumbnails of Max's original notes to the right). Max can almost guarantee that 'Inflikted', and the rest of the songs that have been prepared for the next SOULFLY album, will be written, rewritten, and rewritten again in a very similar way on their inevitable journey to the final mix later this year…

“Also, the 'Inflikted' four-track demo will remain available for mp3 download through our Snocap store on our MySpace page in exchange for a donation to Doctors Without Borders for North American residents; so if you'd rather have 'Inflikted' anywhere you DON'T have an Internet connection, we'll leave it available as an option.

“So in conclusion, listen in, spread the good word, and enjoy the trip into the farthest depths of SOULFLY's past and the journey into SOULFLY's future. It will be a year of great new adventures for the SOULFLY Tribe, rest assured.”
