MEGADETH ON A FANTASTIC TRIP

Posted on February 12, 2008

On the Megadeth website, Megadeth bassist James Lomenzo has posted the following update:

“What a fantastic trip it's been so far this year. It's been such an honor to cross the ocean once again and play for you all with the mighty Megadeth.

“I haven't had much time to reminisce. Family health problems have kept me pretty much on vigil since I've returned. Now that things are improving allow me to take some time to catch up.

“The enthusiastic response from the fans and the press here in the States and internationally has been mind-blowing! It's one thing to talk to a journalist on the phone and have him or her say 'this is Megadeth back to form', but it's quite another thing to see the vehemence of the crowd as they sing along to 'Washington's Next', 'Never Walk Alone' and 'Sleepwalker' in each and every city. You have no idea what a payoff that is to see that kind of response. I humbly thank you.

“Now, on to my broken toe.

“You travel the world, a different hotel room every night. Not a whole lot of sleep… perhaps a bit of the spirits… not a scratch, not even a bruise. I return home and on my first night, I walk to the corner of my bed to grab the phone which is ringing, when all of a sudden. I'm alarmed by a strange 'click' from my right foot. I look down, only to realize that a slight miscalculation of about 2 mm put my toe in an unnatural and very painful position. I immediately reach down and try force the digit back into its rightful position next to the other little 'piggies' — no-go.

“So now, it's finally my turn to visit old Doc Barton.

“Anyway, I'm hobbling about here considering the relative safety of the continuation of our 'Tour of Duty', I may just tie myself to this chair until September… just to stave off any other potential hazards around the house.

“I'd like to extend myself to you bass players out there. Post any questions or discussions you'd like to address directly to me in the Musicians Forum. I'll be happy to participate in as many posts as my time will allow. In the past I've use my website for this but since the last spam-inator's hostile take over, I've had to shut the forum down. I'd love to pick it up right here at old Megadeth.com.

“Best to you all for now.

“Oh, one more thing. I may have something real interesting to post next week… see you then!”

DAATHFEST

Posted on February 12, 2008

Eyal Levi, Daath guitarist/synth player has issued the following update:

“I'm sitting here in Portland, Oregon. We have two days off, which is altogether too much for me. I absolutely hate more than one day off in a row and more than one day off every week and a half. I'm out here to fucking play. That said, the weather here is pleasant, the scenery is gorgeous, everyone knows the weed on the west coast is the best and so all in all this is about as chill as an environment as I could hope for on a day off.

“Anyways onto business… Two Ozzfests and one 'off' date with Nile and Cthonic down.

“People were wondering how this year's free fest would go down but with an average draw of 35,000 people I would say that things are going well for Ozzfest.

“As far as DAATH goes, these have been the two largest shows we have ever played. The biggest prior to this was 1,100 people with Job For

TRIVIUM UNDER THREAT

Posted on February 12, 2008

On the Trivium message board, Matt Heafy answered fans submitted questions and you can see a couple of excerpts below:

Q: How does terrorism affect a touring band with a lot of equipment? Particularly at airports.

Matt: Nowadays we try to always ship what we need to have overseas and have duplicate equipment of all the big crap like amps, cabs, drums, risers, lights, and all that. We basically just ship guitars, wireless, pedals, and other bits and bobs thru a music transportation company. I'll tell you what does suck now from all that terrorism airport crap… the fact that I can't bring my bathroom supplies on the plane anymore. That's about the only thing terrorists accomplished — making people's lives just slightly inconvenient at airports.

Q: Do you believe you are good role models for your fan base?

Matt: For sure. Lots of bands these days provide shit examples on how to live to younger fans, or people who want some sort of role model. Whether these bands actually are drug addict, misogynist, fire-breathing, fighting tough guys; or they just play one for show — it's all a crappy image to portray. We're down-to-earth people like everyone else who just happen to have a killer job that they get to share with the best fans in the world.

HEAVIEST SLIPKNOT ALBUM YET!

Posted on February 12, 2008

Kerrang! Magazine recently interviewed Slipknot percussionist Joey Jordison who revealed some tasty insights into the new Slipknot album:

“It's going to be heavy as fuck!” promised Jordison. “It's going to be heavier than 'Vol. 3…' but just as weird and as experimental. We have a whole bunch of song titles, but nothing I wanna say right now.”

The sticksman — currently filling in for Korn drummer David Silveria, who has been on hiatus from the Bakersfield nu-metallers since the beginning of the year — will be touring with the band until October.

“I'm having a blast out on the road,” Jordison told Kerrang!. “I'll be on the whole Family Values run in the U.S. with Korn over the summer and we've got some Brazilian dates in August and September. The Korn guys are really laid back and the shows have been killer, but in October we'll be starting a new Slipknot chapter.”

Slipknot are due begin recording their fifth studio album in January:

“I've talked to the other guys a bunch of times over the last few months about the new album,” he explained to Kerrang!. “I've told them to demo whatever they can so we've got as much material to chose from as possible. So be warned 2008 is going to be all about Slipknot!”
