Before the Unholy Alliance tour kicked off, we offered our street team, the chance to interview Hatebreed. The teamer who sent in the best questions, would be able to ask the band their questions, and have the answers posted here. The winner was chosen, and here is PART THREE, the final installment of his interview with Sean Martin, Hatebreed’s guitarist. Teamer: What have been the lowlights and highlights of your careers so far? Sean: I guess the low points are personal loss and sacrifice for the band, which, in turn, leads to the high points. We’ve all sacrificed a lot to do what we’re doing and to be out here. We’ve sacrificed relationships, we’ve sacrificed homes. We’ve sacrificed a lot of stuff where we’ve just walked away and said, ‘you know what, we’re going to devote our lives to Hatebreed and to hardcore.’ A few of us have had our own personal trials but the high points are being here every day and being on tour with Slayer and playing to kids playing hardcore music is as high as it gets. Not having to go back to the day job is amazing. Teamer: Are any members of the band Straight Edge, as the tune ‘Kill an Addict’ might suggest? Sean: No, no one’s Straight Edge. You don’t have to be Edge to hate a drug addict, you know. Everyone’s got their demons. All of us have dealt with the ravages of addiction and we’ve dealt with the terrors of it personally. ‘Kill an Addict’ is about a fucking scumbag addict who fucked you over, took your trust and stabbed you in the back. You don’t have to be Edge to hate a junkie. At the same time, we totally support Straight Edge, and, even though we’re not personally, we believe that everybody should go out and do what they want to do. A great amount of my friends are Straight Edge and we don’t separate when it comes to that. We’ve never been an Edge band, contrary to popular belief (laughter). Teamer: Hatebreed are renowned for violent dancing at shows. Is this something you condone or condemn? Sean: I condone it (laughter). Go out and have a good time! I’d rather someone beat the shit out of a hundred people in a mosh pit and get the shit kicked out of him than take out that aggression negatively and beat people down for no reason. If you don’t like it then stand at the back and if you want to be part of it then move up front – it’s part of hardcore, it’s part of punk rock and it’s part of metal. Just don’t be an asshole. If you want to dance and have a good time then go for it. Teamer: With other band members appearing on records by Candiria, Biohazard, and Buried Alive amongst others, what other bands would you like to have the opportunity to work with? Sean: You know, there’s not too much I could offer apart from a pick slide. I’d be honoured to work with anybody if they asked me to. I’ve done some stuff I just did a track with Necro called ‘Insaneology’ on his new record, and a couple of songs on the new Handsome Boy Modelling School record. I’ve done some stuff but outside the realm of Hatebreed – I’ve played guitar on stuff that’s not metal or hardcore. I’d love to do a pick slide on an Entombed album (laughter). Teamer: Having spread the Hatebreed message across the globe, what else, as a band, would you like to achieve before you call it a day? Sean: I think we’re doing a good job of what we’d like to achieve, by going out there and touring non-stop and putting out records. There are still a lot of places we haven’t been yet in the world so we’d love to hit those spots and keep being Hatebreed – that’s all I could ask for.

Cradle Of Filth kicked off their new tour in Quebec City on Halloween! Webzine CapitaleDuMetal was there, and they have posted a bunch of pictures from the show HERE. What did they think? “The Quebec City metalheads had a special treat for their Halloween last night as Cradle Of Filth launched their brand new tour at Le Capitole de Quebec in front of a bit more than 1300 metal maniacs. The show had been sold out for a few weeks already and people got treated to a night of horror and they loved every minute of it. We got a good look at Cradle’s new stage gear and it looks really great!! Theatrics of the last few Cradle’s tour have been put to rest as they now rely more on a sort of triple arch that features projections of all kind. The drum kit is set up a good 3 feet in the air on the left of the stage while the keyboards are at about the same height on the right of the stage and are hidden by an evil kind of flag (or drapery).”
In your internet travels, have you come across The 30-Second Bunnies Theatre Troupe? Basically, rather brilliant 30-second internet cartoons of classic films (Alien, The Exorcist, The Shining, Jaws, Titanic) being re-enacted by bunnies. Until now, although Troupe fans, we really had no excuse for posting a link to them on our site. However! For Halloween, the bunnies got busy and made 3 new re-enactments… Scream, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Freddy Vs Jason. And since we released the Freddy Vs Jason soundtrack, go watch some bunnies being Freddy & Jason HERE. (click here and then the Hare-Raising Halloween button for the other Halloween movies).
Unfortunately, we hear some of you have been unable to find the new Chimaira DVD at your local Virgin store. It seems that at some Virgin stores, there has been a delay in receiving the DVD from their central warehouse. Virgin are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible, so if your local shop was out of stock, you should be able to pick it up from there shortly. If you don’t want to wait however, you can also pick up The Dehumanizing Process DVD at HMV, MVC, and all good indies (or online).
“October 30 , 2004 We just got home last week after almost a month in Europe and it was absolutely great! I first have to say thank you to all of our fans that came out and supported us. You guys are the greatest! We almost didn’t do the tour because we had a number of people (agencies, promoters etc…) say that we should do the album first. Because we haven’t done anything for a few years we felt that we needed to get out and make sure people know that we are back and writing music. There has been so much talk about us “splitting up” and this and that that we felt it necessary to get out and let it be known that we are back! I think that even half way though the tour there was doubt in some peoples mind that the tour would even happen. So thanks to all of you who showed up and supported us. It was an incredible set of shows!!!! Next, thank you to Master and Visceral Bleeding! It was a pleasure getting to know you and playing with you. I wish you both the best of luck and hope you keep in touch! I planned on getting the site updated by now with a full tour report and photos but got home with a nice cold that has kept me on the couch and not wanted to do anything for most of the week. I am feeling much better today and will start putting those photos together. I wish I could have done more while on the road but just didn’t have the capabilities to do so. Next year things will be different and I will keep it going while on the road. I will get all the tour stuff together and talk to you all next week!!!” John Tardy

What Roadrunner Halloween would be complete without a message from a Murderdoll? Wednesday 13 steps up to the bat… “Happy Halloween Ghouls of the UK!!!! Wednesday 13 here wishing you all a spooktacular Horror-day!!!! This is without a doubt my favorite time of the year (duh??). I’m having a Haunted Halloween bash here at my crypt with my friends and family this weekend before we head to the UK to begin the “Look What the Bats Dragged In” tour. It should be a real ghoul-time, as we will be keeping Halloween alive for an extra 3 weeks. I hope to see all of you creeps at the show. Also listen for a couple of the new tunes being played at the shows from my upcoming album Transylvania 90210 – Songs of Death, Dying, and the Dead, due in early 2005 from Roadrunner Records. Beware and Take s-care, Wednesday 13″ PLUS… What do you do at Halloween, but dress up of course?! Halloween came early for the Murderdolls last year – do you remember way back in June 2003, when they came over here and played a show at London’s Madam Jo Jo’s dressed in drag? Well, a great time was had by all, but we never posted up any photos of the event at the time… and now we have. The spooktacular pics are HERE.
As Halloween falls upon us, what better time to watch some decent horror flicks… here’s a note from Chimaira’s Mark Hunter, and his top picks. “Hello friends, Halloween is here, and to get in the mood here is a list of some must see horror flicks. There are hundreds to pick from, I chose some of my favorites. A lot of these gave me the creeps the first time I saw them, and some still do. Hope you enjoy and have at least seen some of these, or will go and check some of them out! Have a fun Halloween! (random list order… I just typed them as they came to me, but if you must know my favorite it is The Shining.) 1. Evil Dead 2. Black Christmas 3. The Shining 4. The Romero Dead Series 5. Dracula (1931) 6. The Exorcist 7. Poltergeist 2 8. Friday The 13th 2 9. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original) 10. Candyman (kind of a cheesy movie I know, but I was in Chicago a few years ago and I went to Cabrini-Green, the housing project that Candyman lives in. Before it was torn down, this place was the worst ghetto I have ever seen. It was like living the movie. It made the Candyman almost impossible for me to watch because I was freaked the fuck out.) 11. Chimaira: The Dehumanizing Process…yes this is a horror movie! It is very scary to see what we go through day to day… pick this one up for sure… if you dare hahahah. 12. Hellraiser and Hellraiser 2 13. Halloween 1 and 2 (would have been better if there were no Myers sequels like originally intended, but since you know there are, 2 is the worthy sequel if you can’t live without knowing what happens next. 3 is not as bad as everyone says!) 14. Silent Night/Deadly Night (a killer Santa… what more could you ask for!!!) 15. The Omen 1, 2, and 3 16. Psycho (original) 17. Zombi 2 18. Rosemary’s Baby 19. The Sixth Sense 20. Saw… new one, great flick check it out for sure! Happy Halloween!
