Liv Kristine Scuffle In Paris

Posted on February 12, 2008

from blabbermouth.net ATROCITY and LEAVES’ EYES have issued the following statement regarding a recent incident on the two group’s joint European tour: “After their grand finale show of the Atlantis Lovelorn Tour in La Locomotive, Paris, November 28, 2004, the bands experienced an arbitrary infringement by the French police. “Right after crew and band had finished the loading of their bus in front of La Locomotive and the adjacent variet퀌© Moulin Rouge, policemen appeared and told the bus driver to leave the street immediately. Due to traffic jam this was not possible at once. The policemen started to speak in a very aggressive tone that culminated in the threat of arresting the bus driver. Moreover, they took his papers away, thus Liv Kristine [LEAVES’ EYES singer] and Alexander Krull [ATROCITY frontman, Liv’s husband] complained about the rude behaviour of the police. Then, suddenly a bunch of policemen, some in civil dresses, rushed the bus and attacked the musicians. As a result of their action, Alex Krull was injured, as several policemen beat him and violently pulled him out of the bus and down to the grown. Also, Liv Kristine was thrown against the wall of the bus and was hurt, too. Without any explanations, Alex Krull was arrested, along with him bus driver Helge, the Dutch tour guide Harald and the German journalist Robert Su퀁Ÿ who had only tried to calm the policemen and keep them from attacking Liv Kristine again. They were all arrested in front of hundreds of visitors at Moulin Rouge and other clubs who witnessed the happening. The four of them were taken to the police station, where they had to stay for about three hours without any explanation for the arrest, any hearing or announcing of their rights. Only intensive pressure from the German embassy lead to their release. Still the police gave no explanation for their aggressive treatment, nor any excuse. “All these facts concerning these inconceivable happenings will be announced to both the German Foreign Bureau and the head of police in Paris.”

Simply Awesome

Posted on February 12, 2008

So, this past weekend our very own Marketing Matt made the trip across the Atlantic from the USA to check out Machine Head live at the Brixton Academy in London. It was Sunday night (Dec 5), and the show was shot for inclusion in the band’s upcoming DVD (coming 2005). What to say of the show? A conversation with Marketing Matt this morning produced the following quotes: “It was awesome…it was a trip, man…the show was amazing…” All actual quotes. Word has it that the crowd outside the venue before the show wrapped around the entire block to where the front of the line was facing the back of the line. What else to say from the show? Sunday night’s show marked the first time MH ever used pyro live. As well, the band finished off the night playing encores of Sepultura, Pantera, and Metallica tracks. As few pics from the night – courtesy of Marketing Matt – can be found in Machine Head’s PHOTO GALLERY…More to come.

Wednesday Thirteen

Posted on February 12, 2008

Back on the recent Wednesday 13 dates, Alison Aird of RoomThirteen.com got up close and personal for a quick chat with the man himself… a clip of her interview follows, and do be sure to browse around their site too and read the rest of it. “Front man of the Murderdolls, columnist for Metal Hammer, artist, father, husband and inventor of “ghoulade”, Wednesday 13 is certainly a man with plenty of ambition and long career ahead of him. Finding fame with the Murderdolls in 2002, Wednesday’s face became familiar to music fans across the country love it or hate it, any band featuring Joey Jordison with Marilyn Manson in the first single is going to be huge. The Murderdolls provided each band member with a stepping stone to greater thing, with each member now taking part in other bands or music related careers, but having mingled amongst the fans waiting outside in the bitter cold for Wednesday’s solo project, the majority want to know if we can expect a second album from the dynamic, tongue in cheek quintet. “There’s no structured time, nobody knows when we’re doing it” Wednesday says, “but yes, we’ve just got to find a time when everybody can do it”. At least that’s sorted then. The first thing I’ve noticed about this front man though, even while he speaks, is how completely and utterly different he is in a backstage area, to how is he portrayed by the media. He’s a small guy, wearing tight blue jeans, regulatory black t-shirt slashed with a band logo and a black cow boy hat. This hat, it turns out, is the wonder of many a fan state side and was originally red and from a breakfast diner/antiques shop somewhere in the states. Strangely enough, minus the makeup Wednesday is a normal looking guy, who fits into the crowd you usually see wandering around these parts, but once the white face paint and black eyeliner are slapped on, Wednesday turns from well spoken interviewee to a snarling, guitar playing singer that can work a crowd into a frenzy over the simplest KFC bucket. After swapping makeup tales we move back onto the topic of Murderdolls and musical influences of Wednesday’s. As Wednesday himself says, his main influence visually and musically came from the likes of Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie, who he first started listening to in his early teens but the glam scene of the late 80s and early 90s are what inspires the stage set up for the recent shows. At a Wednesday 13 show you’ll either be enthralled by the sight that greets you on stage, or it’ll all seem like some horrible nightmare. Plastic heads piled one on top of the other line the singers microphone stand, while futuristic tubes (vacuum tubes we expect) coil around the stands of the rest of the band as a grotesquely grinning clown sits infront of the bass drum, reminding each and every member of the audience just why they hated the circus so much as a child. Clearly, with a bigger stage, Wednesday 13 could run riot with all manner of gothic gismos and toys from childrens nightmares, but even on the smaller stage being used this evening Wednesday has gone all out. A conversation with Wednesday is never dull, you can talk about his favourite cakes (chocolate cake with yellow inside or the rainbow flake cakes that his mother makes) or you can move the topic onto his drawing hobbies and how Family Guy is a really great cartoon, how he identifies with Beetlejuice for being “stupid” and would like to meet movie directors such as Tim Burton and Sylvester Stylone, but one topic that’s particually interesting to myself, and to some of the hardcore kids outside is about Wednesday’s book “Thirteen Dead Kids” which in short, is little poems and drawings all about death…..”

Machine Head/Caliban – Birmingham

Posted on February 12, 2008

Hot off the email… a review of the Machine Head/God Forbid/Caliban show in Birmingham! Thanks Glynn, for sending it in! “A huge ass kissing thanks to all the bands on Friday for putting on an awesome show! I was lucky enough to meet Machine Head before the show and they were all great guys, even though Rob wouldn’t let me touch his beard! I was one of the first into the venue so I ran straight to the barrier. First on were Caliban, who played a great opening set í¢ä‰åäóì the only downfall was the sound quality, but despite this they didn’t fail to impress. They played a lot from the new album ‘The Opposite From Within’ closing with ‘Goodbye’, which was good to scream along to. Its usually awkward being the opening band, but they went down really well and got the crowd to do a huge wall of death. After Caliban’s set I could see the members of God Forbid waiting on the upper balcony, and when they came on they were much appreciated, they had numerous circle pits during the set and played some great tracks, mostly from ‘Gone Forever’, including personal favourite ‘Better Days’. This was my second time seeing the band and although they were great last time (on the NWOAHM tour), I thought they were much better this time round. God forbid left the stage, and fortunately the venue played Chimaira through the speakers to keep us sane whilst we waited. A lot of ‘Machine Fucking Head’ chanting followed and then the lights faded, the intro music started, and then the intro to ‘Imperium’, which was followed by a huge cheer. Rob’s vocals filled the room and within seconds of the opening lines there were pits and crowd surfers. They played some great songs, from both old and new albums, including ‘Bulldozer’, ‘Old’, ‘Days Turn Blue to Gray’ and ‘The Blood, The Sweat, The Tears’, ‘In The Presence Of My Enemies’ and ‘Take My Scars’. I got completely crushed but it was worth every moment, I even heard that people were jumping from the balcony! They also played some calmer tracks later into the set, ‘The Burning Red’ and ‘Descend The Shades of Night’, which gave us a chance to build are energy up for a covers medley which included Sepultura and Metallica’s ‘Battery’ and a tribute to one of Birmingham’s ‘local’ bands Black Sabbath. ‘Davidian’ was amazing with everyone singing along – ‘Let freedom ring with a shotgun blast’. By this point I had been pushed from the centre to the speakers on the left, where Phil Demmel spent his time pulling some hilarious faces at the crowd whilst playing. The amazing hour and a half set closed with Block, and everyone raising their middle fingers to the words ‘fuck it all’. I enjoyed every moment and pity everyone who wasn’t lucky enough to have their asses in Birmingham on Friday night, can’t wait for the next UK ‘Head tour!”
