THE CAVE

Posted on February 12, 2008

Beneath Heaven Lies Hell, Beneath Hell Lies… The Cave!! A few months ago we posted a news story about this film. Due out on the 26th August it basically follows a team into the dark depths of a CAVE!! O.k. so in principle it doesn’t sound very scary or that good. And on watching the preview I was not impressed, that was until the last 5 secs, when all the monsters came out!! However, more important than the film, is the soundtrack (OUT Aug 22nd), 19 tracks of metal-core beauty: 1.Killswitch Engage ‘Irreversal’ 2.Nightwish ‘Nemo’ 3.Atreyu ‘You Eclipsed Me’ 4.Ill Nino ‘I’ll Find A Way’* 5.Shadow’s Fall ‘Inspiration On Demand’ 6.Trivium ‘Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr (Edit)’* 7.Lacuna Coil ‘Daylight Dancer’ 8.Open Hand ‘Hard Night’ 9.Bleeding Through ‘Love Lost In A Hail Of Gunfire’ 10.Diecast ‘Medieval’ 11.Strapping Young Lad ‘Love ?’ 12. Bury Your Dead ‘Magnolia’ 13.It Dies Today ‘A Threnody For Modern Romance’ 14.Mastodon ‘Blood & Thunder’ 15.Vext ‘Prescription’ 16.Burning Bridges ‘King Of The Demimonde’ 17.Egypt Central ‘Taking You Down’ 18.Devilinside ‘Conflicted, Conditioned’ 19.Candiria ‘Bring The Pain/Multiple Incisions’ Also so on the preview page is a game, however unless your on a 1mb + connection don’t even go there. Anyway CLICK HERE and enjoy.

OBITUARY ON OBITUARY pt2

Posted on February 12, 2008

So here it is, OBITUARY’s own perception of their music. A track by track of their entire new album (pt2). If you haven’t heard the band CLICK HERE and check out INSANE track 3 from their forth coming album Frozen In Time. Go to the bands ARTIST PAGE to view the album artwork. This track-by-track is featured in the latest issue of ZERO TOLERANCE, as part of an awesome 4 page feature by Chris Alo. TRACK-BY-TRACK pt 2 6. MINDSET This track is slower in delivery as it plods along. Very brooding and evil sounding, yet not as catchy as some of the others. í¢ä‰åñThat’s a good one, but I can’t remember if I wrote it or if Trevor did,í¢ä‰åŒ laughs Allen West 7. STAND ALONE A quick lead takes off in the beginning of this very fast song. This one has an old school vibe to it. í¢ä‰åñThe second I wrote that riff I thought it sounded like Celtic Frost. An Mot퀌_rhead too maybe a little bit,í¢ä‰åŒ admits Trevor. 8. SLOW DEATH Not as slow as you would expect in the beginning, but the vocals kick in and then the pace backs off. The main riff reminds me of Sepultura’s ‘Slave New World’ and the riffs become longer and slower as it progresses. í¢ä‰åñThe working title for that one was ‘Slipknot’, because of the drumming.í¢ä‰åŒ Big Al comments, í¢ä‰åñReally because it has a sort of tribal beat to it, it’s not like we were trying to sound like them.í¢ä‰åŒ 9. DENIED This sounds like it could have been on Slowly We Rot. Tardy has some great phrasing on this one, but I have no idea what he is saying. í¢ä‰åñThat was the first song I wrote for the new albumí¢ä‰åŒ says Trevor. í¢ä‰åñI wrote it at home by myself with a drum machine.í¢ä‰åŒ í¢ä‰åñTrevor sent me the song over e-mailí¢ä‰åŒ Frank remembers. í¢ä‰åñI heard it and I thought it was like we were really going back to our roots with that one.í¢ä‰åŒ 10. LOCK JAW Starts out with a lead as part of a slower-paced intro. The song kicks into high gear and gets chaotically faster until it slows down for the breakdown in the middle. í¢ä‰åñI started writing the song when I was listening a lot to Hell Awaitsí¢ä‰åŒ confesses Trevor. í¢ä‰åñBut I’ve compared ‘Lock Jaw’ to ‘Hell Awaits’,í¢ä‰åŒ says Frank, í¢ä‰åñand it sounds nothing like that song, it’s just got that kind of vibe to it.í¢ä‰åŒ REMEMBER: OBITUARY – FROZEN IN TIME – OUT JULY 18th

WE MADE A BETTER RECORD

Posted on February 12, 2008

Check out this great Interview with Devildrivers frontman Dez Fafara. EXTRACTS… Blasting-Zone.com: What can you tell us about your latest disc? Dez: “We made a better record, man. It’s got more melody, that’s for sure. We made a faster record – it’s got more hooks, more grooves, more everything. I think this record is going to define who we are from here. Hopefully we’ll continue to progress as a band and continue to grow.” Blasting-Zone.com: Do you feel the lineup changes the group has undergone since the release of the first disc have affected your overall sound? Dez: “Since the beginning of DevilDriver there has been many, many member changes. there are only two members of the group left from when we were called DEATHRIDE. I think the addition of (guitarist) Mike Spreitzer and our previous guitarist (Evan Pitts) leaving, as well as having more than one guy writing the whole album really made the difference. All of my guys can play guitar. Much of the new album was tracked by my bass player and drummer. But at the same time, there’s no hard feelings toward that – they just pass off the baton to each other when it comes to writing and recording. I think that’s such a cool thing for a band to do.” Blasting-Zone.com: What do you hope to accomplish with this album? Dez: “I make no bones about it. I want us to be one of the biggest heavy metal bands out there – no bones about it, man. I think we’re a great live band. I want this band to absolutely get the recognition it deserves. We’re one of the very best live bands you can go see. Anyone that has come out to see us can tell you that. And I say that with zero degrees of cockiness – it’s more of a ‘bring it on’ type of thing, ya know? It comes from a complete heart of gold.” Blasting-Zone.com: Do you feel your work with DevilDriver officially closes the chapter on you time with Coal Chamber? Dez: “I don’t know. I was a member of Coal Chamber for ten years. I look upon that period of time with a great deal of fondness. I got the opportunity to travel the world, I got gold albums out of it. Plus, I got to tour with Black Sabbath and Pantera. I got to do a song with Ozzy and Nikki Sixx. Am I trying to put it behind me? Yes, I’d really like it if people would take a look what I’m doing now. At the same time, I still want people to look at what I did with Coal Chamber, too. It’s all good. I stand behind everything that I’ve ever done, ya know? Life is a growing process. I’ve been in the public eye for ten years – people have watched me grow. I can definitely say that I’m at the top of my game. I think I’m doing my best work. As long as I can still honestly say that, I’ll keep in the game. As long as the fans are still into what I do.” Blasting-Zone.com: Is there any chance there will ever be a Coal Chamber reunion? Dez: “There will never be a Coal Chamber reunion (laughs). I look upon it with fondness, but it’s like asking someone if they would ever want to go back and repeat the third and fourth grades after they’re already done with high school, ya know? I appreciate people growing with me and understanding what I’m going through, ya know? The only reason I am here is because I have surrounded myself with good players and I’m having a good time.” Read the entire interview at this location. CAN’T WAIT FOR THE WORLD TO HEAR

Posted on February 12, 2008

Opeth – journalists coming back from Sweden, sounds of the new release… By now, a handful of journalists from various metal publications in the US are heading back stateside from spending the weekend in Sweden with Opeth (hearing the new album, conducting interviews). Speaking of the band’s upcoming debut on Roadrunner Records, their A&R Rep here – Mike Gitter – was in the studio with the band early last week, and has the following to say about what he’s heard: “Heard four songs and was blown away….basically, they encompass all things Opeth with a confidence and aggressiveness that smells like a band’s best record. Mikael Akerfeldt told the truth when he talked about a return to the heaviness Opeth is known for. The album’s opener, “Ghost of Perdition” explodes into a god-like riff (replete with his unholy roar) before clobbering you with riffs and musical moves that stretch and break the limits of what can be done within the same song. You can hear a band so self-assured it’s frightening. Keyboardist Per Wiberg — now a fulltime member of Opeth — adds hugely to the band’s sound without overwhelming or softening the intensity of things. Akerfeldt possesses a much stronger vocal range. And drummer Martin Lopez throws in a lot freer range of rhythms and percussion than you’ve ever heard in Opeth’s sound in the past. As strong as the sound and mix of the record was with Steven Wilson on the past three record, the sound of this record is crushing. The band, along with engineer/mixer Jens Borgen have crafted a sound that is totally intricate and in your face. I can’t wait til the world hears this record.”
