Anyone Live & Online

Posted on February 12, 2008

Check it out!! The band have launched a brand new official site, and it is indeed rather gorgeous! What are you waiting for? Go to: www.anyoneden.com without delay! Be sure to post a hi to the guys on their new messageboard. And from that site’s messageboard, comes the first show review from the band’s current tour in the US with Lennon & Speedealer. Thanks for the words, Z3N. Hey Lunatics! I had the honor of checking out Anyone in St. Paul, Minnesota just this past Friday night… February 22nd. The show was at a local venue called the Lab. I got to meet the guys, shake hands, and get autographs. It was definately a great time. The show started off with a local band named 7 Days Remain. Speedealer had to cancel for unknown reasons, but I was very happy to have the pleasure of seeing 7 Days jam out. They held the stage well with a nice power accompanied by some nice heavy groove. I have a feeling we may see some more from these guys in the future. All the band members had their own style that just brought together a good heavy mix. Our guys were up next. One of the best things about seeing the bands at an early show in their careers is, you get to watch them transform the stage. Anyone took the plain dark stage, and turned it into an acid trip playground… complete with lights and smoke effects. We already knew that we were going to see a real show before they even got started. I am a new fan to the music of Anyone. I just recently started listening to them when they hooked up with Roadrunner Records. I have to say that I am definately a fan for the long haul. Their music moves you and tugs you through some wild rides…. and many emotions. The energy that Riz puts into his vocals, and the stage presence will just blow you away. Along with the heavy chest rattling bass from Static, and the unrelentless crash and finesse of Ransom, this was the best act of the evening for me. I personally think their show was just too big for the small stage at the Lab… and maybe a little bit more than the sleepy town of St. Paul can handle! They just blew me away! The night ended with a killer set from Lennon. If you have not seen her live, she is definately an act to behold. She puts a lot of energy and passion into her music, and if you are not careful…. she will just plain mezmerize you! After their set, I got to chat with the guys. They hooked me up with some autographs and other good stuff, including their album. It is definately a must have! I listened to it a few times coming home on the plane, and I can definately say it is a great disc. My favorites are Don’t Wake Me, Real, and of course… The Whole World’s Insane! Might give you a little idea at how intense and powerful these guys play. I just wish that I had seen them in Cali, or somewhere that was a bit more hip to the sound! You guys rule! I am hoping to see your show again soon. Peace to you guys! Z3N

Through The Keyhole With Riz Story

Posted on February 12, 2008

What does Riz have to say about these Through The Keyhole features? And how the show in Anaheim went? “I spent the day today hanging with OZZY and Sharon and their 6 dogs and 2 cats. OZZY and I traded stories about our lives in the music world. He showed me around his estate and we played some pool. He showed me some of his prized possessions and told story after story. He is a good chap and I enjoyed his vibe. Yesterday I went up to spend the eve with Dez of COAL CHAMBER. He’s got lots of beautiful art in his place that him and his girl create in their cozy crib. His girl is very artistic, beautiful inside and out, and they are a stony couple indeed. I wish them the best and hope to hang again soon, fate willing. The show was unreal last Friday at the House Of Blues. Playing with Stephen Perkins was cool. He’s so good it’s just amazing, but mostly I just enjoyed his countenance. He is very warm and humble. The gig was epic ,sold out and going off… more later. story” Yesterday, we wrote how Anyone’s vocalist/guitarist Riz Story was en route with Metal Hammer personnel over to Coal Chamber’s frontman’s house, Dez Fafara. All true. So, what happened? First, apparently Riz and the boys from Metal Hammer had a bit of car trouble, showing up at Dez’s pad 2 hours later than expected. No worries though, as Dez tells, “we had a great time”. So, what exactly was this in home feature all about? Riz was accompanied by a journalist who was taking notes whilst Riz and Dez spoke, and a photographer who was taking pictures of everything at Dez’s place – his artwork (both paintings and sculptures), Anahstasia’s artwork, pics of the backyard, bedroom – everything. What exactly did Dez and Riz speak about? Dez tells “Everything. From music to literature. I found out he’s a fan of Ghandi, he found out I’m a fan of Machiavelli.” Though we are not sure when this “Through The Keyhole With Riz Story” feature at Dez’s house will appear in Metal Hammer, it should be within the next couple months. We’ll be sure to keep you posted. In closing, Dez tells “It’s a true at home – t shirts, no make up, kicking back at home with the Fafara’s.” Down in Austin, located in the state of Texas, there is a yearly music conference known as SXSW. Previously we wrote that Five Pointe O would be making an appearance at SXSW on March 15 with Mushroomhead and Lamb Of God, another show during their upcoming tour. Well, now two other new Roadrunner acts will be making an appearance as well… Anyone and Sinch will now be playing SXSW together on Mar 16. Texas, get ready. Most likely Anyone (coming to SXSW from Cali after their upcoming US run with Lennon) will be playing a couple shows amongst their travels to Austin. Sinch, the same holds true. Going to Austin from the streets of Philadelphia, will most likely make a mini-week long tour along the way. Keep checking back for details. What a small world it is… Remember the THROUGH THE KEYHOLE WITH RIZ news story we posted last week (read below)? Well, in that story we told how Anyone’s lead singer/guitarist Riz Story was being taken around by Metal Hammer to the homes of other rock celebs for a visit. These at home visits will later come to life in Metal Hammer as a feature titled “Through The Keyhole With Riz Story”. Content for 4 series has already been documented – to the homes of Ozzy, Lit, (hed)pe, and of course, Anyone. Well, as this is being written, Riz and Metal Hammer are but 90 minutes away for arriving at the house of Coal Chamber frontman Dez. It’s true. What will happen behind closed doors tonight? We’ll be sure to let you know…

Did You Know… Anyone

Posted on February 12, 2008

For the past few nights, Anyone’s frontman Riz Story has been jamming at Janes Addiction drummer Stephen Perkins’ house. Why? Riz will be doing the guitar duties for a show this Friday 25 Jan at Anaheim’s House Of Blues in California. The band which Riz is filling in for happens to be a new project of Tilo (formerly of Methods Of Mayhem). For this one night affair, the band will be playing directly prior to the main draw (hed)pe. Riz, who will be playing guitar, will be accompanied by Stephen Perkins on drums, Disturbed’s Fuzz on bass, and Tilo on vocal duties. Bet you wish you lived in California. We do. Did you know the band independently released a live show of theirs called LIVE ACID – A Live Recording of the band from the ACID PARTY “TogethermenT”, held at an undisclosed warehouse in Costa Mesa, California? It’s true. As for where to get it? I can only suggest trying ebay or gemm.com. Hey, what is not widely known is that they also put out another release (also independently). It’s called “Rats Live On No Evil Star”. It actually has some very cool shit on it. Again, hard to find. It’s True! Actually, a couple tracks on it were re-recorded for their Roadrunner debut which is out now (go buy it if you haven’t got it). Interesting fact – “Rats Live On No Evil Star” is spelled the same forward AND backward. It’s true! Metal Hammer has engaged vocalist Riz Story for a 6 month run of his own celebrity column called “Through The Keyhole With Riz Story”. Each piece will be a four page feature, most likely starting with the March issue. Basically, this is a feature wherein Metal Hammer takes Riz to the homes of other rock celebs for a visit. Pics and words from the visit go in the mag – and you may well see some of the video Riz shoots up here on this site. Content for three of the upcoming features was done earlier this week – with LIT, (hed)pe, and of course, Anyone. Next Wednesday it’s off to Beverly Hills to pay Ozzy himself a visit. Epic. Though the remaining bands for this feature are not yet in stone, Metallica, Korn, and System Of A Down have all been mentioned as possibilities to be paid visits next week before Anyone heads out on their first trek of the US. Also Bizarre magazine, recently had a contest wherein the question had to do with Riz Story’s producing of an upcoming Vivid Video release, Temple Of Gomorrah. (we trust you are all educated enough to know what Vivid Video is all about) Did You Know? Anyone makes an appearance in this upcoming Vivid Video release, jamming out to an original score they wrote for the movie during its climactic scene – an orgy, nonetheless. It’s true. “The band have been gearing up for the AMERICAN release of the album. The band plans to stage an elaborate production including a MAXIMUM ACID light show that is set to stun the audience. A tour of the states is set for February. Riz Story is busy assembling “LIVE ACID” the videos. . . a video collection of Live videos taken from the film “TOGETHERMENT”. The video will also include rarities like the bands first ever video and rare interviews. Also production on Riz Story’s first feature film “GOLOKA” continues in his own Togetherment studios (located at his home “The ANYONE DEN”). A major film co. has expressed interest in producing the film on a large scale for worldwide theatrical release. What began as an independent film may turn into a 10 million dollar major production! And as always new sounds continue to emerge from the trio. The new material is said to be Very MAXIMUM ACID indeed . . . Heavier and more hallucinogenic than ever !!!!” Yes, that was indeed an update straight from the man himself, Riz Story. Watch this space for more info…

Anyone take over the UK

Posted on February 12, 2008

“God do I have some ugly faces…” said Riz, flicking through our photos from their set last year at Reading festival. On that note, we bring you some more photographs of Riz, Static, and Ransom – from their UK tour dates last December with Mark Lanegan. Check out our tour photo special! The set list for their UK dates included the following songs from their debut album (out now): Peave Love & Toxic, Drops Of Miracles, Fly, Hitches, Running Dry, Don’t Wake Me, and Giving Thrills. The band decide the set list just before they go onstage each night, so it can change from night to night depending on what they feel like playing. How were the shows? Read on.. GLASGOW – The band are excited to be back in the UK, albeit struggling a little to understand the Scottish accents. Having only arrived the night before in London, it was a long drive up to Glasgow overnight in order to arrive in good time to set up for the show. The band tried to take a nap on the way up, but that’s not easy in a minivan crammed to the ceiling with everything imaginable for a tour. Riz has even brought his Union Jack belt buckle with him, which he duly poses for a photo with in Manchester, complete with a Gawd Save The Queen sign he made himself (check out that photo in the tour photo special). The show goes great, and the Glaswegians get to see firsthand just how many drumsticks Ransom breaks each set. “They just snap”, he shrugs. MANCHESTER – One band member divulges that much hilarity ensued enroute from Glasgow when Ransom got a little confused and thought Manchester was actually London, and referred to suburbs, before defensively declaring “well, they’re really close aren’t they?!” Anyway, after a fantastic show, in which Static nearly managed to lose his only pair of infamous goggles to a fan and Ransom let fly some more snapped drumsticks, the band retired to that fabulous hearse-owning club known as the Rock Kitchen (whose hospitality knows no bounds). In fact the band thought the club was so great, they all want to come back and play an intimate club show there! It’s a nice opportunity to hang out with the band, to get to know them a little. I learn that Riz doesn’t drink, Static loves red wine, and that Ransom “can hold his own”. Static has some truly awful jokes about kangeroos and virgins… We discuss the venues the band are playing this tour, how it is going so far, and Riz talks about his ambitions to play Wembley Arena, exclaiming “you don’t believe me, do you? We will, we really will.” I assure him, when that day arrives, I’ll be down the front. Static has a new sticker on his bass ‘free the dogs, chain the humans’, plus a cartoon sketch of a chicken with a rather large penis (we didn’t ask) and has brought a photo of his dog Jack out on the road with him to remind him of home. Ransom is busy with a camera, taking some holiday snaps to remember the trip. The band already have some new songs written, and Riz tells me he has plans for the next couple of Anyone albums.. for it to get more and more pschedelic, so you have to take time to ‘get it’. A big fan of Floyd, he tells he wants to create an album as astounding as ‘The Wall’. The band even joke about about which Zeppelin or Bowie covers they could do. Not much else to report from Manchester, except to mention the flood… and those in the know will understand that. LONDON – In proper British fashion, the weather is freezing, and when I arrive at the venue early evening, I find Riz wrapped up like a eskimo in one of the largest coats you would find. He grins sheepishly, and says “hey, when it’s cold, you just gotta give in and be warm”. He’s right, so we bundle everyone off to a nearby Morrocan restaurant for food, where we end up hijacking the downstairs to hold an impromptu photo shoot because the decor was so amazing! The band spend the time before the show hanging out with the Roadrunner teamers, signing stuff and chatting. During the set, Ransom often calls out to the crowd, throwing sticks out etc. He tells me afterwards he loves being involved with the crowd, and being the drummer is cool, because he can watch everything that is happening, study the front row etc, and give some of the love back. The interaction between the 3 band members is quite something to see – they are such a tight knit group, when you see Riz ‘conducting’ Static and Ransom, it is almost as though you can sense some telepathic vibe. Static talks about how visual their music is and how “people can hear through what they see”. After the set, the band hang out in their increasingly smoke-filled dressing room, with some new friends. Static and I wander out to catch Mark Lanegan’s set. At the end of the night, the band go to stay with a friend in Bayswater for more debauchery, before heading up to Wolverhampton in the morning. WOLVERHAMPTON – On the way to find food before the show, we have to keep pausing to take photographs of local churches, the town Christmas tree and other such features. The band are all genuinely excited to be over here, and their enthusiam is nice to see. Although we find out that Static would like room service to be available everywhere he goes, and that when at home seafood-fan Riz eats super healthily, the band readily accept that when on tour “you just gotta eat whatever you can get your hands on”. Just as well, for we fell into an IKEA-decorated cafe with the slowest service in history. When we end up taking the food back to the venue, the band are so tired from the last 3 days of touring, it’s nap time in the dressing room for 30 minutes instead. After the show, Riz concernedly asks “you couldn’t tell I was really tired, could you?”, the late nights and early starts having taken their toll. Static spends some quality time teaching their driver Paul rude Swedish, and shows me pictures from their CD insert of the new tattoos he wants to get – a star, and a girl, both drawn by Riz. The band give me a lift in their bus back to the hotel we are all staying at that night. While checking in, Ransom digs out his camera again, and we pose for cheesy pictures with the fake plants in the lobby. After hanging out in one of the hotel rooms for some time, chatting and looking at tour manager Mick’s photos of the band, it’s a late finish to the night for everyone. The band are up and out of the hotel for 5:30am though, in order to drive back to London and catch a flight to Germany for 2 days of press. No rest for the wicked… It’s been a long time coming, but it is now confirmed, written in stone, painted on the wall…Anyone’s self titled debut has a street date in the U.S. On February 26th, Anyone’s music will be in stores. What more to say? Last year Street Beat, a part of NYRock.com, reviewed of load of unsigned, newly signed, and independent label bands. Sitting proud in their Top 10 choices of the year is Anyone. We quote, “Anyone rocks”. Need more clarification? Shouldn’t, but if so, you can check out their full review of Anyone’s work HERE. Of course, over here in Europe, it’s been out in the shops for a while you lucky people, so if you have it, go and play it loudly right now. And if you haven’t, what are you waiting for?! Words on the UK tour from Mick… “The only word that I can think to describe the tour is Euphoric. Only our second trip to the UK and we were received by an overwhelming barrage of applause after each and every song at every single show. Night after night energy was transferred between the band and audience over and over again until it exploded outward with Thrills. You could see spasms of electricity emanating from fans minds as the bands finale convulsed. We can’t wait to experience the trip again.” Ransom first met Static when he bumped into him backstage at a Korn gig. Being a big fan of Anyone, (although never having seen them live), when he saw Riz wander off from chatting to Static he had to go talk to Static and say what a great band he thought Anyone was. Apparently Static found this all kinda funny and kept quiet about being the bassist until Riz returned! It’s true.

Held To Ransom

Posted on February 12, 2008

Long standing ANYONE drummer Nipples left the band last week due personal commitments and a decision to pursue new avenues. The split is amicable and Nipples remains on good and close terms with the Anyone unit, in fact he stated it as the hardest decision he has ever had to make. Anyone are sad to see Nipples leave but pleased to welcome new drummer RANSOM. Ransom has been a part of the Anyone family for some time, living with the band at the famed Anyone ‘Den’ in Huntingdon Beach, LA for the past two years. He has toured with the group as Nipples’ drum tech and word has it that he hits them skins like an true psychedelic rock fiend! Here’s a message from Frontman Riz Story on the line up change: We are ecstatic with our new drummer “RANSOM” he is 23 years old and he is a fucking animal as you will soon see. He is from Huntington beach and has been my roommate for two and a half years. Amazingly he learned the entire ANYONE record in one rehearsal and the band is enjoying sounding better than ever. This guys musical prowess is astounding as you will soon see at the UK shows – myself, Static and Ransom can’t wait to get over there and play for you all. Nipples has left the band on his own accord and it was a very amicable split. He has left to dedicate himself to other pursuits. We wish him well and thank him for 6 years of good times and good trips!! See you all soon LOVE, STORY Random Fact – Ransom has played with Static before… in an industrial rock project..from Canada.. called Stayte. What does Static have to say on Ransom joining the band? “Ransom fits in perfectly with ANYONE…I truly mean it when I say we have never sounded better..it’s amazing..the chemistry..is beautiful..”

Changing The World As We Know It

Posted on February 12, 2008

Let’s paint a picture for you…this is the journey as told by an Anyone fan called Stuart in the UK…how he was introduced to Anyone’s music…read and enjoy the trip: I found Anyone through the stereo in my friend’s car. I was very drunk that night..it was 3am, we were on the way home from a party. I had the back window open, spatters of rain were touching my face and the wind was waking me up. Anyone was playing…I couldn’t think of a more suitable band for that moment in my life. I asked if I could borrow the tape…I got dropped off 3 miles from my house…I slotted the tape into my walkman. I never made it home that night, I just sat in a field, with some j’s and listened to the album until my batteries died. I went straight out the following day and bought the CD. It must feel good to know that people in England are sitting in fields listening to your art. Thank you for giving us music. Riz Story (vocals/guitar) actually took time out to reply to my message personally….twice. I can not think of any other band…ever…that would do that. You usually get some sort of automated response…which sucks. Your label have signed a very cool band man. I am literally blown away by their outstanding debut on Roadrunner. Only tonight was I playing Anyone, whilst being shown the art work for my band’s CD. The artist stopped what he was saying and just asked me ‘who the fuck is this’? Believe me, it takes a lot to turn Glynn’s head. Anyone are definitely refreshing…and I think will be here for a long time…..I think they will bring a revolution.

With Love From Vivid

Posted on February 12, 2008

Did you know that singer Riz is an accomplished film maker? Or that the band were involved in the making of the adult film ‘In Aphrodite’?. An adult movie company called Vivid personally asked Riz to make the movie for them. In a scene called ‘Temple Of Gomarah’ the band play amongst the film set and action taking place. Static regards his bass playing as the best he’s ever done. Here’s a few facts from Riz about the film… 1. It is stated for worldwide release in 2002 2. It features VIVID’S top girls 3. It is the first X-rated movie shot edited and directed (and scored ) by the leader of a rock band. 4. It was shot entirely at the ANYONE DEN (my house). . . except for the orgy scene. 5. It was the highest budgeted movie of the year for Vivid. 6. The band (NIPPLES AND STATIC) assisted at shoots. . . Lights, etc. 7. A soft core version will air on spice channel and the playboy channel (also in 2002) 8. The score for the movie was written arranged produced and performed by myself…(Riz). . . with the exeption of course of the final orgy scene which was improvised by the band on the location of the orgy. The soundtrack has a very different sound than ANYONE. It is very ethereal and ambient. . .somewhat dreamy and airy, it floats. . . and it is music for lovers. . . that is to say that I designed it to be used during Love and shagging (as you British would say).

Who the hell are Anyone?

Posted on February 12, 2008

In an email received from ANYONE bassist Static, some biographic words written on ANYONE were attached. These next two paragraphs detail how ANYONE was formed and where the name came from. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of ANYONE … “Anyone was born from the smoldering remains of a highly experimental trio called SYLVIA in 1995. Comprised of Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters) on drums, Juano (Sky Cries Mary) on bass, and singer/songwriter/guitarist Riz Story, the bands short, drug blurred life proved to be the embryo for what would later become the most innovative band of the new millennium. Story found himself with no rhythm section when Hawkins left to back bubblegum rocker Alanis Morrisette, and Juano relocated to Seattle. He began jamming with soft spoken New Jersey transplant Dave “NIPPLES” Murray. Murray had grown tired of the stagnant musical forms back home and had come to Huntington Beach to find a band that could accommodate his power and still be sensitive to his finesse. The search for a bassist ended when Story and Nipples encountered a strange creature which called itself STATIC. Discussions on the origin of the strange name were silenced when STATIC plugged in his instrument and proceeded to produce the loudest and most heavily distorted bass tone the two had ever heard. Story renamed the band ANYONE, a name that he’d been saving for his first born child.” This is the act that people are saying is what you get when you mix Janes Adddiction, Rush, and Pink Floyd all together into one. Last week ANYONE finished re-tracking their debut LP “IS YOU” with Mudrock (Godsmack) – who according to the band, brought out the true MAXIMUM ACID sound of ANYONE. “The new recordings are totally edgy, and MAXIMUM. The band is elated!” tells bassist Static.
