Catching Up With Five Pointe O

Posted on February 12, 2008

Earlier this afternoon (May 1), Five Pointe O pulled into Worcester, MA., the scene of the crime where they were previously scheduled to play the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival last month. However, as you know, due to other tour commitments they were unable to attend. Well, it just so happens that The Palladium (venue for tonight’s show and previously the venue for the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival) concert goers will now get their chance to see the Five Pointe O show. Daily Schedule: hit town, load out, set up, sit back, play show. Upcoming Week’s Schedule: play a show each of the next four nights, after show in Syracuse on 4th drive to Laguardia Airport in NY, fly to LA on 5th, shoot video in LA on 6th, fly back to NY on 7th, join up once again with the Mushroomhead tour on 8th – the NYC date. Yes, this means Five Pointe O will be missing the two dates in Canada on 5th and 7th. As guitarist Sharon Grzelinski puts it, “it sucks we’re missing the Canada shows, but we need a video.” And the video has been confirmed to be for the song “Double X Minus”. All in Five Pointe O camp are excited, “very excited” about the upcoming video. Godspeed… Get your mits on a brand new downloadable MP3 for Double X Minus. Currently playing the 2nd leg of the Mushroomhead tour, their debut video shoot is shaping up to take place sometime in mid-May, most likely in NYC. Song for this video has yet to be determined. Speaking of video, word has it the band’s show in Grand Rapids tomorrow night (Apr 26th) will be filmed. If you hit this show, make a ruckus…dig? RECRUITMENT – If you like this band, why not apply to join our e-team and help promote them? We’re currently looking for some new faces from all over England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales to be part of our e-team. We’ll hook you up with info and cool stuff to promote with, give you some ideas, encourage you to develop your own, and as well as getting yourself some swag for your efforts, you can get to meet the band when they tour over here. So if you fancy being part of the Roadrunner team, all you have to do is click on the street team link or go to: www.roadrunnerrecords.com/rruk to sign up! Down in Austin, located in the state of Texas, there is a yearly music conference known as SXSW. Previously we wrote that Five Pointe O would be making an appearance at SXSW on March 15 with Mushroomhead and Lamb Of God, another show during their upcoming tour. Well, now two other new Roadrunner acts will be making an appearance as well… Anyone and Sinch will now be playing SXSW together on Mar 16. Texas, get ready. Most likely Anyone (coming to SXSW from Cali after their upcoming US run with Lennon) will be playing a couple shows amongst their travels to Austin. Sinch, the same holds true. Going to Austin from the streets of Philadelphia, will most likely make a mini-week long tour along the way. Keep checking back for details. If you have yet to do so, you can check out the cover for this piece (by the way, that’s Daniel wearing the Independent Skateboards sweatshirt). The cover for Untitled is fully the band’s conception, which is brought to life by designer Jason Noto. Jason Noto? Did You Know? Jason Noto was actually the creative director for the cd package of Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP. It’s true. If you own The Marshall Mathers LP, and judging by its sales, odds are you do, raise your hand… Finally. For the first time ever on the Roadrunner site, we have Five Pointe O music to share with you. Moments ago we uploaded an MP3 file of the title track to their upcoming debut release, Untitled. The name of the track? “Untitled”, of course. More? Keep checking back. Words from the band on “Untitled” to follow shortly. Five Pointe O has finished the mixing process for their upcoming record. The record was produced and mixed by Colin Richardson. The record will be mastered in the next couple of weeks. Five Pointe O will rehearse for the next month in preparation for their home-coming show in Chicago scheduled for January 5th. Nora and 36 Crazyfists will open the show. Mixing was headed by Colin Richardson. Roadrunner Records proudly announces the signing of the Joliet, IL-based 6-piece band FIVE POINTE 0. Brought to the Roadrunner family by the same man who brought in new acts Dry Kill Logic (debut release out now) and Sinch, Paul Conroy (Roadrunner A&R) has the following to say: ” I am extremely excited about the signing of Five Pointe 0. I signed Five Pointe 0 because I believe they represent the future of true heavy metal. This band has nothing in common with the glut of pimp rock/nu-metal bands that are over-saturating the market place. Their music uniquely combines brutal heaviness with melody. I am planing for the band to record their debut release for Roadrunner this summer.”

New Tracks In and Words from Mike

Posted on February 12, 2008

Somewhere amongst the grubby fists of our A&R Department here at Roadrunner, one can find 4 new Spineshank tracks. A few days ago the band delivered a disc with some of the new material they have been writing – three songs which have yet to be named, and the fourth being dubbed “Dead To Me”. So, what does the band have to say about the new material at this point in time? Time for a little update from Tommy Decker (drummer)…”Hi everybody (hi dr. nick) just wanted to catch everybody up on whats up with the new album. We’ve been writing a lot of stuff and it’s coming out awesome. I think it’s the next logical step for the band. some of it is the heaviest stuff we’ve ever done. There’s a new song that will definitely be a live show closer. It’s really brutal! Sort of like the Height Of Callousness but even heavier. We’ve also been experimenting with some different kind of songs lately, really dark and dynamic. Of course there are the same Spineshank elements that have always been there, electronics, anger, good grooves, quiet parts that explode into chaos. We are gonna take our time – we want to make the best record we can and that takes time, so bear with us. It will be out this year though (barring any catastrophes). Well, I’ve gotta get back to writing music so I’ll post again soon, when things are a little more finished. Bye, Tommy” The man behind The Production Gospel According To Dave tells that the band will most likely keep writing and recording new demos over the next 3 months, before heading into the studio to record shortly thereafter. Phase II is upon us…you have been warned…resistance is futile… Just before Christmas, Spineshank guitarist Mike Sarkisyan wrote the following: “What’s up motherfuckers!!!!! Just thought i’d drop you all a line letting you know what we’ve been up to. 2 days after we got home from the UK (which was one of the best tours we have done) we locked ourselves up in our studio and started working on record #3. Right now we have about 7 songs (most of them don’t have vocals) and we’re pretty fucking excited about them. All i can tell you at this point, is that it’s gonna be the best SpineShank record by far, and we’re not gonna rest till it’s AMAZING. It’s heavier yet more melodic at times (yea yea yea I know every band says that but wait till you hear it). We’ve been listening to a lot of Weezer, Foo Fighters, Aphex Twin, Atari Teenage Riot, Slayer, The Beatles etc….. We’re hoping it could be out this summer, but we’re not gonna rush it. We’re gonna make sure it’s 110% before it comes out. Till next time, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. see ya . MIKE”

HOC Digi and Latest Album News

Posted on February 12, 2008

Spineshank has been back in the United States for a while now. What have they made of their time? Since their return, they have basically checked themselves into a rehearsal studio at an undisclosed location in LA, and set it up with a pro-tools recording system. What is pro-tools? In a nutshell it’s state of the art recording equipment used in about 99% of the recording studios in the world – by the way, don’t ask where that percentage came from, it could be way off…it is just there to prove a point… They have been practically “living in the rehearsal room” for the past three weeks – word is they only go home to sleep. Word is also they are working on a 6 day/week schedule, most likely sleeping in on Sundays. They have been writing, recording rough songs and rough ideas of songs. Kevin Estrada, their A&R Rep here at Roadrunner, tells they have about 4-5 solid tracks down without vocals. This week they are throwing around harmony ideas for those tracks. “They are so into the music right now. I’ve never seen them so dedicated. It’s amazing,” Kevin proudly informs. In other Spineshank news, you can catch music from their The Height Of Callousness release on the upcoming Sony PlayStation 2 game Shaun Palmer’s Pro Snowboarder, brought to you by the makers of the Cool Boarders series and the Tony Hawk series. The track “New Disease” is featured in the game, and you can catch a preview of it online (“New Disease” can be heard on the Movie 3 demo). Did you catch a date on the UK tour? They flew home on Sep 15th – right after we took them out to a(nother) London rock club for drinks and debauchery the night before… Check out our instore photos. You can see the live photos of the tour all on www.roadrunnerrecords.co.uk. Also, read a few words direct from Tommy on their visit…”I wanna thank all our friends and fans in the uk for making our first uk headlining tour such a success. It has been a long time since we had been there and i thought that maybe you had forgotten about us, You definitely showed us otherwise. T he uk tour also marked the end of a solid year on the road supporting the height of callousness and i cant think of a better way to end an amazing year for spineshank. We have already begun working on a new record which will hopefully be out by next summer but we are in no rush, we want to give you the best spineshank album possible, how ever long that may take. And dont worry, the new cd will be heavier, more intense and more dynamic than H.O.C! Well, ive gotta run, for more info on the new record check www.spineshank.com as we will be doing monthly reports. talk to you later” Tommy Spineshank The band have completed a video for the track “New Disease” off The Height Of Callousness and you can see it right here on the website. ‘New Disease’ was released as a single on September 10th. The tracklisting is as follows: 1. New Disease (edit) 2. The Height Of Callousness (Fist F*ck Integrity Mix) 3. Asthematic (Punctured Lung Mix) 4. New Disease (video) For your viewing pleasure, Spineshank’s guitarist Mike Sarkisyan sent in some photos from the US Ozzfest tour. You can check them out on Spineshank’s website www.spineshank.com. (Click on the IMAGES link, and then look for TOUR PHOTOS) As the photos on that page are from various shows throughout their current tour, the 11 pics that Mike just sent in are at the bottom…so start at the bottom and work your way up. Take a look at the video for ‘Synthetic’ – full-length as real media or as a short quicktime clip! Some Early Praise

Posted on February 12, 2008

THEORY OF A DEADMAN are receiving early praise from the critics for their debut album (the first release from Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger’s 604 Records via Roadrunner Records). Here’s a sample: “Think of ‘Nothing Could Come Between Us’ as a well-tuned blend of the best elements of Tantric, Days of the New, Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and Nickelback, with an undercurrent of blues. Lead vocalist/guitarist Tyler Connolly’s lyrics depict a breakup that may or may not be painful to the storyteller. It could easily become an anthem for those who want to ditch their insignificant others pronto. Keep your eyes open for the eponymous debut. ” –Chuck Taylor, Billboard, 24/8/02 “í¢ä‰åŒ_Theory of a Deadman’s tunes are catchy arena rock anthems delivered with such authority and passioní¢ä‰åŒ_” –Eric Schumacher-Rasmussen, CDNOW, 9/9/02 “Theory Of A Deadman showcase a guitar-based, harmony rich, post-grunge soundí¢ä‰åŒ_” –Stereo-Type (Pennsylvania), September 2002

Updates And The VMA’s

Posted on February 12, 2008

The latest snippets on Theory Of A Deadman? 1) The band have a covermount CD track on Metal Hammer (7/11). 2) As of September 29th, the band’s run of tour dates in the USA with Nickelback is done. 3) Check out Metal Hammer’s Nov issue out Oct 7 for a ‘Check Em Out’ piece on the band. 4) Don’t miss Classic Rock (Nov issue) for a Future Classic feature. 5) Watch out for a band feature in Powerplay magazine coming up soon in their November issue. Last night (Aug 29th) the MTV Video Music Awards took place. Tyler from Theory Of A Deadman was in NYC last night, as “Hero” was up for best video from a film. Tyler, along with Josey (Saliva) – both of who were in the “Hero” video with Chad Kroeger – attended the show…along with Elias (Roadrunner Records). Random Fact: Elias’ seat for the show was 604E. What the hell does that mean? Well, technically Theory Of A Deadman is signed to 604 Records (Chad’s imprint on Roadrunner…604 happens to be an area code in Canada). As for the ‘E,’ well that’s Elias’ nickname – ‘E’ (very original, yes). A sign? Maybe so – if you believe in that sort of shit. BUT, “Hero” did indeed win the award for best video from a film – that film being Spider-Man…but, of course. Congratulations to all involved in the making of the “Hero” video…

Posted on February 12, 2008

HOT OFF THE US PRESS RELEASE: “Hot on the heels of a spate of early adds at Active (tied with Puddle of Mudd) and Mainstream Rock on KRXQ/Sacramento, KQRC/Kansas City, KILO/Colorado Springs, WXTB/Tampa, KXXR/Minneapolis, and WEBN/Cincinnatti to name a few, Vancouver’s Theory of a Deadman have been slated to hit the road with Nickelback for a leg of U.S. summer festival dates from September 5 through the 29th. The tour only serves to raise the profile of Theory of a Deadman, whose self-titled debut is set to hit the streets on September 17th. This album marks the first release from Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Jonathan Simkin’s 604 Records imprint, distributed through Roadrunner Records. The group–TYLER CONNOLLY (vocals/guitar), DAVE BRENNER (guitars), DEAN BACK (bass) and TIM HART (drums)–recorded the album at Vancouver’s Greenhouse Studios with Kroeger and Joey Moi (Nickelback, Default) co-producing. In other news, CONNOLLY also appeared on the single and in the video for the Chad Kroeger hit song “Hero” from the Spider-Man (Music From and Inspired By) CD, released April 30 in connection with the blockbuster film. “Hero” was recently nominated for an MTV Video Music Award for “Best Video From A Film.” As all this activity swirls around the band, their first single “Nothing Could Come Between Us” continues to build at radio. It’s currently the #5 Greatest Gainer on the R&R Active Rock chart and the #4 Greatest Gainer on R&R’s Rock chart. In a recent Billboard review of the song, Chuck Taylor noted: “Think of “Nothing Could Come Between Us” as a well-tuned blend of the best elements of Tantric, Days Of The New, Creed, Stone Temple Pilots, and Nickelback, with an undercurrent of bluesí¢ä‰åŒ_It could easily become an anthem for those who want to ditch their insignificant others pronto.” Current tour dates are as follows: Thurs 9/5 Blackfoot, ID Eastern Idaho State Fair Fri 9/6 Salt Lake City, UT Utah State Fair Thurs 9/12 Kearney, NE Buffalo County Fairgrounds Fri 9/13 Hutchinson, KS Kansas State Fair Sat 9/14 Sioux Falls, SD WH Lyons Fairgrounds Fri 9/20 Louisville, KY Broadbent Arena Kentucky Fair and Expo Center Tues 9/24 Birmingham, AL Oak Mountain Amphitheatre Fri 9/27 Huntsville, AL Big Spring Jam Sun 9/29 San Antonio, TX Sunken Gardens Theater.”
