OBITUARY ON OBITUARY pt2

Posted on February 12, 2008

So here it is, OBITUARY’s own perception of their music. A track by track of their entire new album (pt2). If you haven’t heard the band CLICK HERE and check out INSANE track 3 from their forth coming album Frozen In Time. Go to the bands ARTIST PAGE to view the album artwork. This track-by-track is featured in the latest issue of ZERO TOLERANCE, as part of an awesome 4 page feature by Chris Alo. TRACK-BY-TRACK pt 2 6. MINDSET This track is slower in delivery as it plods along. Very brooding and evil sounding, yet not as catchy as some of the others. í¢ä‰åñThat’s a good one, but I can’t remember if I wrote it or if Trevor did,í¢ä‰åŒ laughs Allen West 7. STAND ALONE A quick lead takes off in the beginning of this very fast song. This one has an old school vibe to it. í¢ä‰åñThe second I wrote that riff I thought it sounded like Celtic Frost. An Mot퀌_rhead too maybe a little bit,í¢ä‰åŒ admits Trevor. 8. SLOW DEATH Not as slow as you would expect in the beginning, but the vocals kick in and then the pace backs off. The main riff reminds me of Sepultura’s ‘Slave New World’ and the riffs become longer and slower as it progresses. í¢ä‰åñThe working title for that one was ‘Slipknot’, because of the drumming.í¢ä‰åŒ Big Al comments, í¢ä‰åñReally because it has a sort of tribal beat to it, it’s not like we were trying to sound like them.í¢ä‰åŒ 9. DENIED This sounds like it could have been on Slowly We Rot. Tardy has some great phrasing on this one, but I have no idea what he is saying. í¢ä‰åñThat was the first song I wrote for the new albumí¢ä‰åŒ says Trevor. í¢ä‰åñI wrote it at home by myself with a drum machine.í¢ä‰åŒ í¢ä‰åñTrevor sent me the song over e-mailí¢ä‰åŒ Frank remembers. í¢ä‰åñI heard it and I thought it was like we were really going back to our roots with that one.í¢ä‰åŒ 10. LOCK JAW Starts out with a lead as part of a slower-paced intro. The song kicks into high gear and gets chaotically faster until it slows down for the breakdown in the middle. í¢ä‰åñI started writing the song when I was listening a lot to Hell Awaitsí¢ä‰åŒ confesses Trevor. í¢ä‰åñBut I’ve compared ‘Lock Jaw’ to ‘Hell Awaits’,í¢ä‰åŒ says Frank, í¢ä‰åñand it sounds nothing like that song, it’s just got that kind of vibe to it.í¢ä‰åŒ REMEMBER: OBITUARY – FROZEN IN TIME – OUT JULY 18th
