New Line up’s Live Debut

Posted on February 12, 2008

Not since May 1st have we made mention of Twice The Sun. Well, things are happening in camp once again: Miami’s Twice The Sun debuted their new line up last week at two Southern Florida shows – Thursday, August 22 at Fort Lauderdale’s Culture Room opening for Darwin’s Waiting Room, and Saturday, the 24th headlining the Mars Music Store’s Mars-fest. The two shows, which debuted new frontman Armando Soler (ex-Insidious) and drummer Alex “Zeus” Garcia, replacing former frontman James Partridge and drummer Tommy Garrett, showed a much leaner, more focused sounding Twice The Sun. The set-list consisted of mostly newer material: “Should I?”, “Tribute”, “Restless”, “Breaking Away” and a piano-only number, “Changes”, that showed the new frontman’s considerable vocal range and personality. “He’s got a great range and voice,” says guitarist Peter Santa Maria of Twice The Sun’s new frontman. “Armando’s younger and has tons of energy. Plus, he’s one of those frontmen that gets up there and kids can totally relate to him – and the funny thing was prior to joining Twice The Sun, he had only been on stage three times in his entire life!. He’s a natural if there ever was one!” On the band’s new drummer: “Zeus brings a lot more power and versatility to the band,” adds keyboardist Damien Biltres. “Think Stewart Copeland and Bill Bruford but waaay heavier.” The only two “older” songs played were “Reach Out” and “Angelina”. While the show’s focus was on the band’s new line-up and material, the overall sound was unmistakably Twice The Sun. Heavy, hooky and keyboard driven. Says Santa Maria: “This is the Twice The Sun we always wanted to be.”
