KIDS IN GLASS HOUSES JOIN THE ROADRUNNER FAMILY

Posted on February 12, 2008

Cardiff based quintet Kids In Glass Houses, one of the hottest unsigned bands the UK had to offer in 2007, will end the year with a record deal to their name.

The hook-laden rockers signed with Roadrunner Records on Saturday evening, just hours before taking to the stage to begin their current UK tour supporting Funeral For A Friend. The band recently completed the recording of their forthcoming debut album with producer Romesh Dodangoda (Funeral For A Friend, Bullet For My Valentine, The Blackout), which will see a release on the label in the Spring.

It’s just over a year since the then unknown five-piece burst onto the UK’s underground circuit, armed with a humorously titled, five track demo outing, ‘E-Pocalypse’. Praise for the now out-of-print effort, also produced by Dodangoda, came from a plethora of well respected figures within the rock media, including writers at Kerrang! Magazine, as well as Daniel P Carter and Zane Lowe at BBC Radio 1. The aforementioned backing helped the band secure their first major support slots alongside Lostprophets and Cute Is What We Aim For.

The early stages of 2007 saw the band declared as one of ‘The 10 Hottest New Bands On The Planet’ by Kerrang! magazine, record a Maida Vale session for the BBC Radio 1 Rock Show, as well as tours supporting the likes of Hundred Reasons and 30 Seconds To Mars. The group then also became the first unsigned band to headline Klub Kerrang! at London’s Koko venue. By the time June had come to a close, the band were fresh off their first headline tour of the UK, with the majority of dates having sold-out in advance. The tour was preceded by backing up their seemingly ever-present hype machine, with impressive performances at the Give It A Name, The Full Ponty, Download and Hyde Park Calling festivals.

Further touring, combined with the groups relentless work ethic, was rewarded in early August, when the band were announced as nominee’s for the ‘Best British Newcomer’ category at the Kerrang! Awards. Despite losing out to Gallows, the band proved they were more than worthy of their nomination with sensational performances at the Carling Weekend in Reading and Leeds to capacity Carling Stage tents. As a result, the NME ranked the band at number 3 in their ’10 Best New Bands’ at the festival report.

After taking the majority of September off, in order to complete the writing process for their debut full-length, the band re-emerged in October for another headline tour. This time culminating in a Halloween show at London’s Islington Academy. Never ones to do things by halves, the band opened their set with a cover of Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’, with the band sporting zombie makeup and attire. But it was frontman Aled who drew the most attention, dressed exactly as Jackson appears in the now classic accompanying music video.

The incredible and inspiring journey the band has undertaken, is made even more impressive when you consider that the band have only officially released one very limited edition single, limited to just 500 signed and numbered vinyls. 2008 will no doubt see the band catapult further into the spotlight with an albums worth of their infectious brand of rock, bursting at the seams with pop sensibilities.

Roadrunner Records MD for the UK, Mark Palmer, says: “We’re very excited to welcome Kids In Glass Houses to the Roadrunner family. We have been watching the band closely for well over a year now and have seen them develop into amazing live performers with incredible songs. They will be a massive priority for Roadrunner in 2008.”

KIGH vocalist, Aled Phillips, says: “We couldn’t be happier signing with Roadrunner Records. Everyone at the company gets and loves what we’re doing and what we hope to achieve, and that’s the most important thing. It’s been a long process, but we definitely feel we’ve made the best decision and feel totally at home. We can’t wait to get the record out!”
